Exactly. Which goes to show people with libertarian leanings will by default attract other people across the aisle. It's even better when you have libertarian Republicans who appeal to the hardcore conservative base.

GJ never had a chance at the GOP nomination though. Which is a shame.

Haven't we more than established the guy's credentials by now? I mean, half this thread is people talking about how smart he is as a way to deflect one of the guy's statements.

While I admit not having an idea who Ted Cruz was before this thread, I wouldn't want to be in his position on that chart. As Clizzy said earlier, it's 2013 & plenty can change, but I can't see how 33% bodes well for him.

 

Yeah, but in 1990 how man people had a clue who Bill Clinton was. How many other people lead the polls last year for the GOP only for Romney to end up with the nomination...Yes, a lot can and will happen in the next 3 years!!!

Maybe everything you say here turns out to be true. But I don't see how those numbers could be viewed in a positive way at all.

You can measure a politician's potential viability as a candidate by whom is attacking him and how hard. There are many "whacky" politicians in Washington, but not many have drawn fire from the leaders of their own party and the leaders of the opposition party. The people who run the two major parties are scared of anybody who is a threat to the status quo.

 

Politicians who can sway public opinion are relatively rare in this country. Our system of government does not require elected officials to answer questions the way that parliamentarian systems of government do. Ted Cruz has that talent and it is why he is being attacked by rivals in both parties. Think about this. What kind of damage can Ted Cruz do with his single vote as a member of the minority party in the Senate to warrant the vicious attacks by Harry Reid and John McCain?
