The fact he believes that is pretty wacky. I don't think he is Looney . I find that comment to be Looney. But I also don't let one comment define the man as Looney. Like Mitch said its obvious prior to this thread you were not terribly familiar with Senator Cruz resume or work on other topics. If you YouTube senate clips from Cspan on Senator Cruz even if you don't agree with him its hard not to walk away impressed from how detailed articulate and well researched he is on a wide range of issue surrounding the Constitution. But you want to pigeon hole him as Looney based on one line in a quote. I would like to hear more detailed response from Senator Cruz and his legal reasoning behind it . Without how he handled other legal topics as a Senator I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. On so many other legal issues brought up in the Senate he has made people from both parties look silly because his understanding of details of constitutional law is in the top 1-2% in either senate or the House.

You are correct, Lipton. I never said that the quote was wrong, only that it did not come from a trustworthy source. Clyde has a habit of mischaracterizing and poorly paraphrasing other people's posts, when their actual words are available for all to see. I don't think that he can help himself.

You are mistaken if you think that there are many dumb attorneys in this country. There are far more bad attorneys practicing law in this country than good ones, IMO. Ted Cruz is among the top lawyers in the nation but I never claimed that Ted Cruz is a genius. However, your fellow liberal, Alan Dershowitz, came very close to making that claim.

 

I assume you mean "that are are NOT many dumb attorneys." You cannot be dumb and make it through law school and pass the BAR exam. Can't be. That, though, does not mean you're good at your job. That's not even really a subtle distinction , thus, it should be able to be picked up.

But that's the thing. He said Cruz was whacky based on the one quote Cruz said about golf and paved roads and you two danced around that for two pages instead of addressing why he said Cruz was whacky.

One quote without proper context. You seem to be fine to with jumping to conclusions without context on a republican but attack people when they have done it to Obama on this board . ( which I agree is wrong ) . Just looking for consistency. It seems you are able to make a ruling on a Republicans whackiness with minimal evidence. Doesn't sound very moderate.

My problem is if you read my posts is the character assaniation attempt based on one line. He is calling a man a loon for having an opinion on a topic be is fully qualified to have. Much more qualified than Clyde I may add and the author from the liberal blog. I didn't dance or deny. I said this alone is pretty weak to label someone a loon on. Sen. Cruz is just the lefts new target to paint crazy because it wasn't working on Rand Paul.

Focusing on one quote without proper context is intellectually dishonest, Clyde. There is no need to pretend that it is not. Either Lipton or I could produce a long list of absolutely ridiculous Obama quotes, but I don't play that game. Candidates, especially during campaigns, become fatigued and often utter nonsense. Obama has a poor record over the past 4-1/2 years and it would be childish to criticize him for saying that there are 57 states or that we need more Arabic translators in the military to send to Afghanistan, when he has a real record to criticize. When people are tired, they sometimes utter nonsense and sometimes they are just not well informed on a specific subject.

 

Likewise, picking out a short quote with no context, as you did to base your claim that Ted Cruz is "whacky." when he has a long exemplary record of achievement is neither a fair nor an honest basis for debate. It is easy to grab a few lines off of a blog and run with them like they mean something, but it does not earn one much respect.

Before labeling someone a loon I would like to know things like legally why they think this is possible what research or knowledge they have on the subject that's for starters. I think of a whole host of other things as well I'd like to know before I called someone a loon. That's just me .

 

The funny thing is Clyde doesn't see the irony in this thread where he self proclaimed himself a moderate. ( I'm still chuckling ) That he proved my point that he does not give Republican politicians the same benefit of the doubt that he has given Obama and many democrats on this site . Like we don't have memories . But maybe I'm confused because its been over a decade since I took political science in college on what the definition of a moderate is.
