July 24, 201313 yr And that's how you lose a pennant. You play to win the game. There is no unwritten rule about how to play double headers.
July 24, 201313 yr Izturis had to get some PT sometime soon since he hadn't played really played for a week and a half. After they won the first Dusty could afford to move some guys around. If they lost the 1st game, I believe the lineup would have been a little different. Why? He sucks.
July 24, 201313 yr Has less to do with Izturis needing to play and more to do with Cozart needing to rest, I would guess.
July 24, 201313 yr Has less to do with Izturis needing to play and more to do with Cozart needing to rest, I would guess. Heard that Dusty subscribes to the theory that it's better to rest a player when he's hot, than when he's in a slump. The reason? When you're hitting it good, and you're given a break, you actually rest (both physically and mentally). But, when you're in a slump and given time off, you usually sit there and worry mentally, so the rest doesn't do you as much good.

There may not be many more opportunities to rest Cozart from here on out.
July 24, 201313 yr Since when is giving someone a game off stupid? When they are on fire. And when you need a win. And when they're in their early 20's. And when they barely stay above Mendoza. Hottest hitter in the lineup who's not a catcher and he sits. Yes, it was stupid.
July 24, 201313 yr Now people want Cozart to play more :lol2: When he's hot, yes. It's not like Jeter replaced him. You're smarter than that.
July 24, 201313 yr I refer everyone to Spindoc if they would like to know what I think of Cozart sitting during Game 2 yesterday. He is spot on.

July 24, 201313 yr The dude has been in major league baseball for 46 years. He probably knows when to sit a guy and when not to. Yep. Like he knows when to take a starter out with 117 pitches because he's spent instead of letting him try to finish an inning as an ego boost, right? Please, you know better. Cozart is seeing like it's a friggin' beachball. Stupid, seriously. Was he exhausted from running all of those bases the game before? I understand he's not used to that.

Cozart is seeing like it's a friggin' beachball. Stupid, seriously. Was he exhausted from running all of those bases the game before? I understand he's not used to that. Apples and oranges. No manager that has managed more than 2 games has taken a pitcher out at the right time, every time. You're better than that. Did Izturis give up 3 runs in the 1st? Did he hit 4th and leave 6 base runners? When Corky is your leading RBI guy, you're going to lose. 6 hits between the 5 and 6 hitters and 1 RBI. Izturis isn't the reason they lost. Again, if you guys want to use Dusty as a scapegoat when the team came back down to earth offensively, so be it. The recurring theme, loss after loss, is an anemic offense. The quicker you realize it the easier it is to swallow.
