July 24, 201313 yr Apples and oranges. No manager that has managed more than 2 games has taken a pitcher out at the right time, every time. You're better than that. Did Izturis give up 3 runs in the 1st? Did he hit 4th and leave 6 base runners? When Corky is your leading RBI guy, you're going to lose. 6 hits between the 5 and 6 hitters and 1 RBI. Izturis isn't the reason they lost. Again, if you guys want to use Dusty as a scapegoat when the team came back down to earth offensively, so be it. The recurring theme, loss after loss, is an anemic offense. The quicker you realize it the easier it is to swallow. And could Cozart have provided more offense than Izturis? You can't say that he wouldn't have. But I (and spindoc) believe with the way he is swinging the bat the last few days he could have. It was a 2 run game and who is to say Cozart couldn't have made up for those 2 runs or set the table for others.

Which of the next 8 games would you have liked him to sit? You guys would complain about it either way...after the fact...just to be reassured Izturis has a bad day.

You sure you don't want to edit? As to Dusty's pitching decisions, you know I know better, but you act as if he's golden when he makes a retarded decision.
July 24, 201313 yr Good luck with that. Why would I need luck with that? And I should have added, if he cools off, you can sit him then but he wasn't cooled off last night at 1030 PM EST.

As to Dusty's pitching decisions, you know I know better, but you act as if he's golden when he makes a retarded decision. Team offense has been anemic. Pretty glaring when two guys account for 60% of your hits. I simply disagree that it was a retarded decision. Now, if you complain that he didn't bunt Reynolds with 1 out and Corky on 2nd, I'm on board. Corky doesn't score on a routine hit from 2B and the only run the other day was on a passed ball when he bunted Homer with 1 out.

July 24, 201313 yr That's what you aren't seeming to get. That's the wrong time to sit a guy, and I agree with that philosophy. And I disagree with that philosophy. Especially when you are in a playoff race and could possibly win a 4 game series before the last day.

I can tell you from experience, when you are really seeing it, you get the barrel on everything. He was in one of those zones he may not see for another month. But whatever.

July 24, 201313 yr And if you are mentally tough, an off day doesn't effect you. It affects the team..
July 24, 201313 yr It affects the team.. So does your 4 hitter going 0-5 and leaving 6 guys on. That's baseball. Few guys play 162 whether they are on fire or not.
July 24, 201313 yr So does your 4 hitter going 0-5 and leaving 6 guys on. That's baseball. Few guys play 162 whether they are on fire or not. Cozart has played 93 games. The Reds have played 101 games. He's had some breaks (when he wasn't hitting) so why sit him when he is finally hitting? And yes Phillips went 0-5. But say Cozart is in the lineup and in the bottom of the 3rd he gets on base. Votto singles. Now when Pence misplays Phillips hit it is bases loaded at minimum. Run scoring chance. Bottom of 4. Runners first and second, 2 outs. Instead of Izturis flying out, Cozart gets a hit. Maybe a run scores? Bottom of 6. Instead of Izturis popping out to Belt in foul territory, Cozart gets a hit and it's first and second. Votto gets a hit like he did. Maybe a run scores? That's just 3 ways Cozart could have helped the team with his bat the way he has been swinging it and those are just with singles.
July 24, 201313 yr And if you are mentally tough, an off day doesn't effect you. Has nothing to do with psyche.
