"The turnover in coaches sure is an indicator that something is amiss."

From and outsider looking in....it appears that at least the last two (not familiar with the ones previous so I hold comment) were quality coaches...at least from everything I am hearing.

Losing them to a "dream job" and a "work committment" is pretty tough to blame the admin for...........

Can't comment on the other field comments.......but the Beer Garden down the left field line is usually in good shape. :bag:

Am I the only one that is completely thrown back by the "practice soccer field" and the way that facilities are used today. It seems as if baseball and softball are the only outdoor sports anymore that practice and play on their own field with the exception of schools who have turf. I can somewhat see why a school with football and soccer would want a practice field because that would completely tear up the grass. But St. Henry has no football team. I just wonder what the soccer team would be saying if they started to build a practice baseball and softball field??? And then you have schools like Boone or Lloyd who have their teams practice in the outfield of the baseball field so they can save their grass.. What would the administration do if come February 15th the baseball team was out on the football field so they could "save their grass"???

Speaking as a St. Henry alum who played for both coach Bieger and Terrell, that field was built by the coaches and players. Countless hours of sweat and hard work. The kids used to be on that field working until coach Bieger had to bring his truck up to the field and turn his lights on. Warning track, cut outs, edging, fences in front of the dugout, trees planted behind the outfield fence, wind screens, etc etc was all the work of the coaching staff and kids. And a HUGE part of all of it was Gil Hitchcock. That man was there with coach Biegs and Terrell and works and unbelievable amount of hours on that field.

I have to agree after going through the program that the administration does not care about the baseball or softball programs very much at all. There were times while I was at the school that we got kicked out of the gym for intramural volleyball IN THE MIDDLE OF APRIL! I also know more than a few people that are on the board there and sadly enough KyWonder hit the nail on the head. I also thought it was funny that they were charging 5 dollar admission this year when I was always told that Paul Kramer told them that if his name were on that field they were not to charge admission. If that is true, I would sure hope Mr. Kramer doesn't get wind of that!

Gil Hitchcock, are you sure he "worked" on the field or was it "supervised" on the field. Com on Andy

Considering most of the hours he spent on the field was when nobody else was around i wouldnt call it supervising. That guy put in A TON of work on that field. And if your "Andy" comment is implying that i am Gil's son Andrew you would be wrong.

1. First of all, I don't think the school needs all this negativity.

2. Last I heard, enrollment is up. Incoming freshman class is about the size of the one that just graduated, which was one of the bigger classes.

3. My kid practiced soccer at Mary Queen of Heaven for 3 seasons. Nice to

have a place on campus to practice now.

4. I think new tennis courts are also being built next to the soccer field?

5. Plus plans for an auditorium because, well, sports is not the only extracurricular.

6. Sure it would be great to have a football program. But they don't. We all know that going in. And it's not hurting enrollment.

7. Class of 2013 had 6 Governor's Scholars and a record year of scholarship offers. Just sayin...

8. There are a lot of things that I'm not thrilled with at St Henry. But there is also a lot of really great stuff going on at that school.

9. Hope they find a new baseball coach soon. Lots of great kids and nice families supporting the baseball program.

10. Back to point #1. I don't think the St Henry bashing benefits anyone.

Probably the most balanced response.

Tough part of not having football is that it probably causes ST Henry to lose out on some top dual sport athletes from IHM or St Paul who may have gone to St Henry instead of Cov Cath, so

it costs them in baseball or basketball.

You're only looking at it as the practice field is being built to save the grass. I also look at it this way: If there is a JV/Varsity boys doubleheader taking place, where do the girls practice? And vice versa. This enables the other program to be able to get a full practice in without have to worry about being in the way instead of only practicing 3-4 before JV starts warmups for a 5:00 game.

I can't speak for other schools but I know at Dixie that if there are soccer games taking place then the other team practices on the PRACTICE FIELD or the baseball outfield. So your criticism of St. Henry is unfounded as you are not looking at the big picture.

Gil worked on the field. A LOT. I'm not sure what you have against him but I personally saw him busting his rear on numerous occasions to keep the field in good shape. Your "supervision" comment is completely undermining all the countless hours of hard work he performed.

Anybody hear of any of the possible candidates for the job?

I heard that Myerhoff is interested in the job. :idunno:

That would be a somewhat ironic turn of events. Good luck to Coach Meyerhoff. I hope he gets the job.

Meyerhoff at St H? That indeed would be interesting! I don't think that will happen.

If they were smart they would...

Agree 125%. He is one of the best out there. But... St. Henry parents and administration couldn't handle coach Bieger or Terrell.. I doubt coach Myerhoff would last very long out there.

St. Henry does have two Soccer teams. When the Girls are playing, the boys can't have practice. You also have 4 teams playing games on that field. So scheduling is a problem. Soccer is very tough on a Grass Field and if you want to keep your Playing Field nice, you have to practice somewhere else.

Why do parents create the divisions in the programs? Everyone should be working to do whatever gives the kids the best opportunity for the kids to play. Beechwood's Baseball team does use the Football Field for pre-season practices/scrimmages. As far as I know, nobody has a problem with it.

I thought I was told by a St. henry parent that everything for the Soccer Practice Field was donated.

I thought I was told by a St. henry parent that everything for the Soccer Practice Field was donated.

This is what I have heard as well.

Donated? Doubt it. The real problem as I've stated before is the lack of commitment towards St H's baseball program. Again, no support from the St H Admin.. Case in point: the baseball team has yet to have a banquet and or awards, i.e. letters, awards, etc.. that are well earned. The kids at least deserve to be recognized for what they have accomplished. NOTHING!! VERY SAD!!

I think it's great that capital improvements are being made at St Henry. Last year it was a new track so that St Henry could host track meets. This year it's a new soccer field. Who knows what will be next. Stay tuned.
