July 12, 201313 yr Rios would be a good option. I know his contract sucks, but there wouldnt be as big of a price for him because of that. But with Ludwick coming back they wouldnt go for that. Id look for a guy like Micheal Young. Free agent after this year and will most likely be dealt before the deadline. I see this year being exactly like last year though and a trade comes out of nowhere.
July 30, 201313 yr Author Alright, put up or shut up day. Anybody really expect the Reds to do anything by the time the trade deadline expires? Not me. I've heard Dusty and Walt say too many times over the past month or so that they'll be "adding" talent when those players that are injured come back (Ludwick, Marshall and Broxton). And while that may very well be true...the thing that concerns me is only one of those guys can help the offense. Otherwise, you're asking the staff to pitch a shutout each and every night, the way the O has been going right now.
July 30, 201313 yr List of players I'd be interested in: 1. Michael Morse - Big Bat, FA at the end of the year & plays for the Mariners (who would be more than willing to trade with the Reds). 2. Howie Kendrick - Solid stick & versatile player. Primarily plays LF & 2B for the Angels. He could play LF for the Reds or they could try to work him in at 3B over time. Kendrick is owed just over $9 million for '14 & '15 (each), but the good news is that he'd be under team control for 2 more years. He's currently hitting .298 with 11 HR's. He'd look GREAT in the 2-hole sandwiched between Choo & Votto. 3. Emilio Bonifacio - He's having a terrible year for the Blue Jays, but he's earning less than $3 million this year and he's available for arbitration this offseason. Bonifacio doesn't fit one specific need, but he's versatile and could play SS, 3B, LF or CF. 4. Michael Young - Young could play 3B (and occasionally give Votto a day off). He's a right handed bat that would get on base a lot & provide veteran leadership. 5. Hunter Pence - I'm not sure how or where Pence fits in, but he would certainly make the Reds a better ballclub. He's likely too expensive, but he's the best bat available and I'd see what the Giants want in exchange.
July 30, 201313 yr Author Better question, who is worth giving up to get what the Reds need? Or at least, who are you willing to let go. If someone asks about Bailey or Cingrani...are they untouchable? What about Chapman? Or Hamilton at AAA?

July 30, 201313 yr Author You've put at least 3 guys on here that play 3B. Are you suggesting they trade Frazier? Depends on what you'd get for him. If it's just renting a player for the final couple of months, then the Reds probably don't do the deal. If it's for a guy you can keep at 3B for the next 2 or 3...then, maybe they do. The thing with Frazier that you'd have to look at, is his ability to play LF too. Depending on who else they might package in a trade (Heisey, Robinson, etc.) you may have another need for another outfielder. Doesn't mean he'll be your starting LF next year, but winning right now would seem to be the objective.
July 30, 201313 yr You've put at least 3 guys on here that play 3B. Are you suggesting they trade Frazier? I would be open to trading Frazier if they could get a long-term replacement at 3rd. I am open to acquiring a 3rd baseman though simply because Frazier can easily transition to LF & that really opens up the pool of available players. I don't think Ludwick will have much value this season, especially not early on. If Frazier & Ludwick could platoon in LF, that might be the best bet.

Apparently Michael Young has told the Phillies that he won't approve a trade to anyone except the Rangers...and maybe the Bo Sox.
July 30, 201313 yr What about Marlon Byrd? Haven't seen much about him recently. Earlier this month I read that the Mets would request a lot in return, and most teams wouldn't meet that.
July 30, 201313 yr Author Yup, Non-waiver deadline is tomorrow (Wednesday)... Guess I'm jet lagged from being on west coast time so much lately! Sorry...please disregard date reference.
