July 30, 201313 yr Author Apparently Michael Young has told the Phillies that he won't approve a trade to anyone except the Rangers...and maybe the Bo Sox. Hate to hear that. He was one that I actually thought if the Reds DID do something, I'd like it to be with him. Don't know why he'd have an aversion to a.) staying in the National League, where he's already faced a good portion of the pitchers this year, and b.) hitting at GABP with some regularity. After all, he's going to be a FA after this season anyway, it's not like he's having to go somewhere long term.
July 30, 201313 yr Haven't seen much about him recently. Earlier this month I read that the Mets would request a lot in return, and most teams wouldn't meet that. I doubt anyone is going to give the Mets a heck of a lot for him. They would be smart to unload him.
July 31, 201313 yr Mariners are very willing to move Morse. Not sure why the Reds wouldn't look at him. Ludwick isn't going to do anything this season. Dusty said he needs another 50 or so ABs before he's called up. That'll be mid-August. Could be too late then, if he even produces at all.
July 31, 201313 yr Another bat I'd take a look at is Nate Schierholtz from the Cubs. I know he's a lefty, but at this point, they need any type of bat. He'd be a huge upgrade over the current LF situation.
July 31, 201313 yr Lance retweeted Joel Sherman who said he heard the Reds are interested in Javier Lopez (SF). 1-1, 1.42 ERA, 45 G, 25.1 IP, 20 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 10 BB, 27 K, .208 BAA.

I would be highly disappointed if they make a move like this. Pitching is not this team's problem. Yes, everyone has had a bad outing every now and then...but, the majority of the league would love to have the staff the Reds have, both starters and the pen. But, even with the best arms in the league, you can't expect to contend if you're only scoring 1-2 runs a game. Something needs to be done with the offense...whether that's 3B, SS or LF.

August 1, 201313 yr Author The 'pen has blown several games lately. Javy Lopez isn't the answer, but he's a very, very good late inning guy. He's also a lefty... Understand. But when you go 22 consecutive innings or whatever it was, without scoring a run, it doesn't matter how great of a pen you have...its unrealistic to expect everybody's going to be perfect all the time. If you can't score, you can't win.
August 1, 201313 yr As far back as the Reds are from winning the division .......and as far ahead as they are in the WC race it would have been a reach to do anything. They are pretty much slotted to the second wildcard with a smaller chance at the first wildcard or a smaller chance of being the last team out of the playoffs.
