Jim Schue is 1,000,000,000 times more official than Larry Vaught. He's all the proof in print I need.

My understanding is that he is returning to high school to qualify for his state retirement. I don't think the Trinity job would help him in that endeavor.

 

He only needs another year or two at the most to qualify for his full state retirement, so the Trinity thing could be a definite possibility if Beatty was to ever leave there. Trinity and every other private school for that matter could be a possibility for he and many other retirees from KY.

 

Teacher/coaches who get a full 27+ in KY that decide to go the Private school route (or federal, at Fort Knox and Fort Campbell) is becoming more and more common than just driving across the border to TN, WV, Ohio, IN, ILL, etc....

Forgive my ignorance as it may have already been discussed...but what's the status of the Head Coach? Is he perceived to be in the twilight of his career or a temporary stop-gap?

 

If he is a young coach I would hate to be in this situation. This would basically be like being the Head Coach of Stanford and Harbaugh decided he wanted to return to be a Coordinator. You know the first sign of turmoil or losing a game where everyone's thoughts are immediately turning.

 

"Bardstwon only defeated Green County 20-14.... if Chuck Smith were the Head Coach they would have won by 40."

"Bardstown only put up 20 points? If Smith had control of the offense as well as the defense I bet they would have put up 50."

"Bardstown lost in the Regional Finals? How many times did Chuck Smith lose in the Regional Finals at Boyle? Not many!"

^^ David Clark isn't a "young guy". He has about 20 years worth of teaching and coaching (give or take a couple). I THINK the natives were getting a little restless prior to the 2011 season, but all is good now after back to back 10 win seasons & from what I've heard, things are just going to keep getting better and better in Tiger Land. From all I have heard from those within the Bardstown school system (some of these being coaches), is that Bardstown has I think their 8th grade or current freshmen class (or both), that are about as talented of a bunch that the school has seen in a while & possibly could be the best before they graduate. Coach Clark does a great job, and is an even better person. Bardstown just went through a couple years of down times. They were further proof that no program in invincible of things going south for a bit, especially being a "small" school. His job is safe, as it well should be.

No matter what he does, or how content Coach Smith is, there is not a single doubt that from this point forward there will be a pressure and expectations that are truly unfair for the Coach as people won't be able to stop themselves from wondering "If Coach Smith were the Head Coach would ..."

 

 

That's the point I am making. Whereas a 3rd Round playoff loss before may have been an achievement... does it now suddenly take on a different feel knowing the DC is a guy who seldom fell anywhere short of the State Finals? Certainly not fair to the HC.. but undeniable that it won't be in people's heads. Furthermore, does it take away from the HC's achievements? If Bardstown goes 9-1 and reaches the State Finals will people associate it more with the job the HC did,,, or the fact the Great Chuck Smith "is secretly running the show anyway"?

I love David Clark. And it isn't just because I graduated with him and got to watch him play QB our senior year. He's truly a great guy and has proven to be a great coach. Even if he has no hair left.

Chuck really ran the defense, not the offense for Boyle. That was Pardue. So if Bardstown's offense sputters it won't be like Chuck could help them there. :lol2:

 

I see your point but I don't think Clark would take the guy in if he didn't feel that he and Chuck would make an excellent team.

And, Chuck Smith is a great person/great character. He is not going to do anything to undermine anyone.

Chuck was hired as the school's PASS coordinator. The PASS program works with kids in alternative school transitioning them back to regular school. In just three short weeks his impact there has been noticeable and remarkable. He is also the defensive coordinator on the football team. Drill, drill, drill, Bardstown's practices are up-tempo and disciplined as a result of his presence, and as you saw, they pitched a shutout against Green County. A word about David Clark: David spent several years there modifying the system, and there were growing pains. He instituted behavioral and academic standards and followed them. He instituted some morale-building efforts with the "purple and gold" that has kids entering kindergarten believing they are Tigers. And he re-formulated the rec football leagues to coordinate school teams at younger levels. Those efforts have paid off in recent years. I know David personally (shaved bald head and all) and do not believe the hiring of Smith caused discomfort, in fact it was quite the contrary. From all appearances, their approach and attitudes to young people, particularly young African-American boys, makes them brothers from different mothers. Smith does have family here. Bardstown has won 4 state titles, is looking for more, and is always in the hunt. And, incidentally, from an academic standpoint, Bardstown is in a bit of a Rennaissance period where not only are school-wide test scores and standardized results on the uptick (school-wide ACT was up 1 full point from 2011-2012), but their enrichment and academic teams, robotics clubs, etc. are all excelling in competition. I have 4 children in Bardstown City Schools and am quite pleased, and have the means to both home school or send to privates if I felt the need was there. I don't.

I love that David Clark still is in Purple and Gold. That is awesome.

 

I enjoy seeing and hearing about him doing great things. I was able to secure a picture of David for our class reunion last year and nobody could believe he was bald. :lol: Head full of hair last time we saw him.

I played with him in college, so you need to keep that picture, since it may be the last one where he had any significant amount of hair.:lol2:He and his wife just had their 3rd child in early July.
