Ted Edgington should be considered also. Not only for his physical ability but also his leadership.

 

I'd start my list with Rick Hornsby being number one and everyone else falling in behind him. Hornsby was an exceptional football player and is a quality individual.

 

Edgington is a great leader and Coach Hornsby is a definite quality individual, no doubt, but I was basing things simply on athletic prowess.

 

I think if you're involving character in the equation, there are at least of couple guys whose stock would drop a bit. Not saying that particularly as a dig to one person or another...just being honest.

What are the true criteria for being considered Top 3:

 

1. First Team All State

2. College Football Scholarship out of CCH

3. Other

 

We really should pick an all CCH Offensive and defensive team and that would be better indicators.. IMO

Old thread but I can not help but comment. I played with Paul Hlandon (sp) and he was high on his own list and the media. In reality he was an awful team player who care only about himself. He did not start until his senior year after Donnie Bieger graduated. I wish Paul had Donnie's heart.

What you say about Paul may or may not be true, but, he was darn good one Saturday in December of 1988.

Wasn't Barry Jones a 4 year starter at UK? I know he was outstanding O lineman in 94 or 95.

Yes, teammate of David Wilson, who I also believe deserves mention. He played three different offensive positions in his three years as a starter. As a sophomore Dave was a two way starter by the end of the year and at the time, set the school record for most TD catches @ WR. As a junior, he was a second team all conference QB (behind Gallichio) and as a senior, was a two way all conference player, NKY POY and first Colonel 1,000 yard rusher - all while having to play QB for about five games late in the year and only played the first half of about 3-4 games. Dave was a three year starter at Safety for Randy Walker - Miami (OH).

 

Barry was at least a three year starter, if not four at UK. Moved to Guard down there - great feet, a nasty streak and finished blocks down field!

 

I had the good fortune if being a teammate of both at CCH.

Madden won 2 state titles, rushed for over or close to 200 yards in the 3 games he played against Moeller.

4 touchdowns in the Mud Bowl. One at the end of 4th quarter, another in first ot. and final was game winner in 2nd OT.

In the State Final it was him and 20 year oldArtose Pinter going toe to toe.

Jared Kees, Started all 3 years at QB.

 

Artie was a beast.

Does anyone remember on signing day that Barry Alvarez (sp) from Wisconsin pulled his Scholarship?

He was the original Bobby Petrino.

I have hated Wisconsin ever since then. What a difference something like that can do to change the course of someones life.

Wisconsin dropped scholarship at last minute, so he signed with Michigan State. I believe he was in East Lansing for one season and transferred to UK. He passed away during his transfer year.

Coaches take on a big role in kids lives.

Mike Woolf (sp?) was good, but not top of the list. Ted Edington was good, but again not top. Both could be top of the list of the best "person", but not the best players.
