The tough question is this, why wasn't Suchanek put in to pitch?, definitely one of the best pitchers in the region, he had only thrown 3 innings, there is no need to save him for the next game.... Good question. However Stringer pitched Beechwood out of the sixth inning with a runner on second and two outs when he K'ed Cox to end the Dixie threat, so maybe just maybe Mullins beleive that the young man could finish the job.

 

Me? I would have IW Caple, brought in Suchanek and had him pitch to Elkus who prior to this AB had struck out swinging in the 1st inning, Batters Interference (2) in the 4th and went (6) in the 6th.

Stringer is a great player, to me, especially after the run, you needed a momentum change. There is no doubt Stringer is a very talented player, Coach Lemonis from Louisville was there, I'm sure to keep an eye on him and Combs.

Was it really that big of a deal? The student in question went a bit overboard in supporting his classmates. I know many Beechwood Fans that didn't even know it happened. If a Dixie parent generalized and said all Beechwood Students/Players are "TOOLS" its not good, but not really a big deal either. All of it crosses the line a bit, but give me a break. While I was shocked that it was this particular student, he did not expose himself as the statements suggest. I do think that Administrators should speak with him... about his choice of underwear color. Apparently he is getting ready to support UK with the same enthusiasm.

 

As for a bat thrown into the stands (NOT TOG), give me a break! That would entail a player running out of a dugout with a bat past the end of the nets (they go from 1st Base to 3rd base there) and hurling a bat into the stands. Stupid statements like this should not be repeated and unless you witness something like that first hand, shut the hell up. Negative comments that begin with "I heard..." are cowardess and immature.

 

What I witnessed was a team that has done some growing up under Coach Mullins. No ugliness, just very disapointed kids who walked the handshake line displaying good sportsmanship. I would say that was a very humbling experience for Stringer and in the long run will serve him well. IMO, much better than winning would have. I have witnessed embarassing behavior from him in both Football and Baseball, but tonight I was proud that he was representing BW.

Congratulations to Mr. Combs will have much to think about all summer long. Not only a great Pitching outing, but topped it off with a Walk-off HR. They have a whale of a game tonight, but he will get to remember that shot for a long time. How many times do you think he has played out that scenario in the backyard. I did it, my sons do it and I'm sure almost every ball player has done it. He got to live it out for real. what a great night for him. His first High School HR is a Walk-off Grand Slam in the Regional Tourney. Man, even as a BW fan, it makes me smile just thinking about it.

In Football you can lose because of running out of time, as you can in Basketball, but in the greatest game in the land, you don't lose by the running out of time but only by making that last out.

 

The game tonight wasn't over until the last out was made and Beechwood couldn't and Dixie wouldn't, allow it to happen!

Okay, I going to say this and you all know that all year long I have been on Blues side but tonight from my seat the HP Blue was calling a strike that looked to me to be wide all night long. Now I have no problem with it at all, as he was consistently calling that pitch on both teams a strike until Elkus came to bat with two outs and men on 2nd and 3rd with the score tied and two outs.

 

I believe with a 2-2 count, Stringer hit the same spot that Blue had been calling a strike all night long but for whatever reason, Blue called it a ball and then Elkus walked prior to the Grand Slam HR by Combs.

Agree, I thought it was a bad call, but I was on 1st base side. After speaking with Beechwood fans that were directly behind Home Plate, they said that it was indeed a bit wide and had been called a BALL ALL Night Long. In short, good CALL. Even it was a Strike, you can't argue with consistency.
