I feel for the Stinger kid, I really, really do. Putting a frosh in that position is tough and (I am only guessing) but I think with the first pitch to Combs being a ball my guess is that the young man thinking was that he wasn't going to walk in the winning run and he threw what he thought was his best pitch and Combs smashed it for a HR.

 

Tough spot to be in and a tough lesson to learn but he and the rest of the Tigers need to keep their head held him.

 

Again Congrat to the players and fans of Dixie but you have a very, very tough game on Thursday to play, so get down to earth real quick!

Once I post something I feel an obligation to answer any follow up questions even if it is just a Highlands fan stoking the fire. I know her well enough and she speaks her mind. Nothing wrong with that. I was rooting for Beechwood, and didn't see the behavior in question, but if true, they were acting like a tool.

 

As for the game what can you say-great win by Dixie. Superb pitching by Niehaus and a walk off granny by Combs. It doesn't get any better than that. Feel for the Tigers as they were one out away from going to the finals, but as TOG says that is why baseball is the greatest game and it is. My heart is broken tonight, but I will get over that someday, and to the winner go the spoils, and the winners tonight were the Red Colonels of Dixie Heights.

Honestly and truthfully I wish we could just stick with the game as it was that good.

Again, this is a TEAM! I thought for sure they would walk Caple in the 7th. When they didn't, I really liked our chances to win! He blisters a ball into right-center. Elkus shows complete discipline too lay off of a high 3-2 pitch. What can I say about the shot that G$ hit! First home run in school ball came at a pretty opportune time! But again, none of this happens of Nick Niehaus doesn't grind out the last 4 innings, not giving up a run to the potent Beechwood offense!

7th inning of the game and the score reading Beechwood 2 Dixie 1 and Beechwood with just needing 3 outs for the victory.....it went down like this:

 

8th hole batter: Harrison on a 2-1 pitch ground out to (3) unassisted for the 1st out of the inning.

9th hole batter: McGee on a 1-2 count goes down swinging for the 2nd out of the inning.

1st hole batter: Daria on a 1-1 count goes to 1st base via a HBP. Man on 1st 2 outs Dixie down by one run.

2nd hole batter: Kerns on a 0-1 count hits a single to right field and Daria goes to third and is safe by a hair! Two outs Dixie down by 1 run, runners on 1st and 3rd.

 

Of note: Max had to have some big ones as in the 1st inning on almost the exact same play, with Daria being on 1st and a single to right by Kerns the Beechwood Right Fielder threw out Daria for the 1st out in the 1st inning on a great (9-5) bang, bang throw and tag play.

 

3 hole batter: Caple on a 1-0 count hits a single to tie the game as Daria scores easily from 3rd.

4 hole batter: Elkus as I mentioned in another post walks on a 3-2 count. Bases loaded, tie score......

5th hole batter: Combs on a 1-0 count as I mentioned in another post Stringer throws by my guess his best pitch and Combs crushes it and the game is over!

No doubt players and coaches work their butts off. Just out of curiosity since you are on the bench with CovCath why do continue to respond. Have you not learned anything from coach Krumps, do your job, go about your business and not say anything. The more you talk the more you bring down the program.

The tough question is this, why wasn't Suchanek put in to pitch?, definitely one of the best pitchers in the region, he had only thrown 3 innings, there is no need to save him for the next game.... Now his next game will be with his summer team. The coach had several opportunities, even a trip to the mound... JMO
