In no way shape or form can a murder of a man on his own property not committing a crime be justified. It is the officers job to show restraint. They will have to live with this the rest of their lives and people should be fired and charges should happen.

If it's not it darn well should be. You can't just fire without first determining the situation. Maybe they did issue some type of warning and he didn't respond appropriately. I hope that's the situation.

I could see a case where police determine that reaching the gunman unnoticed would be critical and unfortunately the elderly gentleman did something to alarm the police and decide deadly force was needed.

 

 

Maybe they did issue some type of warning and he didn't respond appropriately. I hope that's the situation.

 

You would hope people know that once the police show up, at a bare minimum, holster your firearm or preferably lie it down.

I'll wait for more info, I jumped the gun. My first reaction comes from the dozens of previous cases you read about accidental shootings. My favorites are the ones where the Swat team has the wrong address. I have had a growing concern over the years our local police forces have become to militarized . A mentality of shoot first ask questions later.

 

I also know my orginal comment was unfair and most cops are good people. I'm sure the cops feel horrible. But I do think an investigation needs to be done to see if a loss of life could of been prevented.

I don't think name calling proves your point. Did the cop let himself known or tell the man to drop his weapon. If he did I have no problem. If the cop just shot because they saw a gun and didn't identify themself I have a huge problem.

If the man didn't commit a crime, and the cops didn't identify themselves I just don't see any other conclusion.

Which is why more info is needed. Who is to say the police when seeing a man with a gun in his hand didn't tell him to stop and who is to say the man didn't start walking toward the police trying to explain who he was while waving the gun in his hand without realizing what he was doing?

 

Too many unanswered questions to automatically jump to conclusions and persecute the police involved.
