Ryle 7 Covington Catholic 2 (9th Region 1st Round)

Silliness. If you followed CCH all year, Schreiver and Zalla were the only ones who hit consistently. Pitching was mediocre. There were not high expectations. Baseball is all about pitching. You may have a good team but you run into someone's ace and it could be all over that quickly.

I certainly cannot claim to say I am as familiar with this year's crew as I was in previous years but your description of their offense is in line with the perception I got. Not a lot of punch.

I do see more punch next year with Schreiver and young Hepp.

I agree that CCH seems to have the annual hype around its program but I question who the source of the hype is. I'm sure there are years when the coaching staff thinks they have the talent to win district, region, or state but I'm betting that's not shared outside the lockerroom. The majority of hype comes from the two worst sources in the history of sports - parents and individual players.

As for the losses in regional games, I'm sure that you can find blame or fault on all levels of the team. Coaching decision, player errors, mental mistakes all contribute. I do think that sometimes after a loss in a one and out format too many times we look for reasons why the losing team didn't win - maybe it's simply because for that game the winning team was better. That shouldn't be an indictment of a programs success or failure especially when that program has achieved a level of sustained success such as Cov Cath.

I know the Cov Cath faithful want to find fault with Krumps and use him as the reason for going a whole 8 years without a regional and you may be right, but for a different reason. Perhaps in setting the standard of success (along with Max) over such an extended time, he has raised the bar to which other teams strive to achieve. In doing so, other coaches (many of whom played for him) have established programs that are his equal.

Make no mistake, he will win another region title (or 2) as he hasn't forgotten how to coach. I for one will congratulate him when he does as it will be well deserved

When you do, please ask him a question for me.

"What does a yellow light mean?"

Took me a while.

Nicely done.

I would not use the word "over-hyped" when referring to CCH, as they are year in and year out one of - if not the - most consistent programs in the area. Keep It Real is on point with one item, though I would state it a little differently. And just to be fair - it applies equaly well to Ryle. I think most people would rank both CCH and Ryle in the top 3 or 4 baseball programs in the 9th, BUT it is valid to point out that between the two of them they have exactly zero regional titles since 2008 and two since 2003 (Ryle 2007; CCH 2005). For whatever reason - and certainly NCC and Beechwood are two major reasons :lol2: - they simply haven't gotten it done consistently come regional tourney time. Does that make either of them "overhyped"? No, I don't think so. They are both well-coached, very competitive teams that are always a legitimate threat to win region and deserving of the "hype", but I do think it is fair to say they have been a bit of a disappointment of late in their post-season tourney performances. I look for Ryle to change that this year. :thumb:

How is the first baseman that looked like he got knocked out for about 5 seconds? Ugly.

Trainers from both teams came out to check on the kid. I'm guessing by the fact that both allowed him to stay in he must not have been knocked out and he was not showing signs of a concussion.

Your first comment is very in line with the picture and I don't buy your second reply.

Clyde, you have an eye for the game and you saw what you saw and I am not real sure what would change your mind so quickly.

I just hope the kid is ok. Does anyone know if he did a baseline test today and whether or not he passed?

Second question for those that know this kid, Does anyone know if he plays football?

Hope all is well...:thumb:

"Slow down" .....

One of my favorite TV scenes ever.

I believe he did indeed have an ImPACT test but have not heard the results. And no he is not a football player. He is a one sport guy. Knowing him and his family I am confident they will listen to the experts and resume play once cleared to do so and not a moment sooner.

What changed my mind is two professional athletic trainers who looked at him and made the call. Yes, he looked out to me for a few seconds but I'll trust those two professionals.

Was there not a Dr in the house? Seemed like a pretty nice crowd and I know a few former Blueboys that have gone on to be MD's. I know for the Highlands game there were minimum 6 Dr's in attendance just from Highlands not to metion a few from SH.

My wife is a Flight Attendant and anytime they have to call for a Dr over the intercom 10 hands go in the air immediately.

Not sure if any of them are real Dr's or not but a few of them claim that "I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last nite"....Surely we had a few of those Dr's present...

Sounds good...Did he play tonite?
