I'm not saying Highlands isn't good, because they are. But have they had much serious competion this year?

I still think Highlands and Holmes are the two teams to beat, we will get a preview on Feb 7th, however coach willie will sure has his boys ready for the tourney with battles against Bryan Staion, Holmes, Pendleton, and BB all this month.

:sssh: What do we have here? Someone with a little inside Ludlow knowledge. Sometimes it's not the length of the practice but the quality of the practice that is most important. As far as I know the practice for all middle school teams has remained pretty consistent over the last decade and during that time Ludlow has had several very good seasons for a school their size.

 

I am a big advocate of quality versus quantity. When you get to the 8th grade level, that is a critical time to be able to continue working on fundamentals and working scheme into your practice. I realize that Ludlow doesn't exactly have 5 gymnasiums so it makes things difficult. My point being that with only 3 hours a week it is tough to get things done. Kids these days don't exactly leave practice and go shoot around for two hours either, which makes me :cry: :mad:

It will be close but I pick Holmes:thumb:

:thumb: I agree with your comments. it is difficult to find enough practice time and also difficult to find people willing to give of their time to coach. In my day a teacher was always your coach. Now your lucky if you can find one willing to do it.

Your right about kids leaving practice and going to the park or somewhere for a pickup game or just to shoot around. You see very little of that these days.

Holmes, Highlands, and Newport seems to have the better athletes, but you have to give the edge to the Bluebirds, they have the better coaching and the more controled players.

 

Quit mentioning Newport in these threads. They have zero shot at winning region, and that is what this thread is about. You somehow find a way to shoehorn them in every single thread. I would hate to see how much we would have to hear about them if they were actually good.

The kids that love the game do......I coach 5th graders and we only get gym time 1 night a week and I can tell you they go up and play at the Ft. Thomas Armory on as many off days they can and I know 3 or 4 that are in the drive-way shooting on other nights.

 

I think the thing that drives me :mad: is the ability for kids to go out and just play a pick up game.....when I was a kid, you could get 5 guys together, go to the park and the games were so competetive because if you won, you stayed on the court, if you didnt.. you were sitting. That is what is lacking as far as what I see....now I do have a couple of kids who when practice is over, they may not pick up a ball until the game on Saturday... to each its own..

 

now back to the subject..... HHS Birds have the discipline/defense and Mr. vories..... they will win.....

When I made that statement it was a generalization. There are those kids that still go to the park and in ther Fort you are fortunate to have the armory ecspecially for this time of year. When I was younger I grew up in Erlanger and you couldn't get on the court at Silverlake and Maywood. Now kids just pick up the remote control to the PS2 and that is their workout :irked: :cry: . Quite sad!!

Like I said before the Birds could take the Region. If it comes down to the Birds and the Dawgs it could be one for the ages!

Most coaches don't let their players do that in case of injury, while pick up games can be so helpful to a player's game. Physical playground ball gives the softer players (especially in the 9th region) a new mentality.

Holmes beat CCH by 3, and Highlands beat them by 1 on a last second shot. So how come CCH is getting no credit. They always play Holmes close i think it will go down between CCH and Holmes before Highlands and Holmes.

I have seen most of the 9th region teams this year and believe that only CovCath, Highlands and Holmes are capable of winning the region.

I agree that there is probably a 95% chance that one of these three will win the region. However, I've seen it so many times before where a lesser team could get a great draw and sneak up on one of the favorites. If those three end up in the same bracket somehow, that would be two tough games to get to the finals with the semifinal having the feel of the championship game. After that physically and mentally draining game the lesser team can steal the title! Probably won't happen, but never say never. That's what makes basketball great!

I def think that allot of ppl will be surprised with a few of the teams in the 9th. I've watched allot of games this year and most of them have been with BCHS. They have amazed me, all up to the 4th qtr. They have a very strong team that plays and plays and in the 4th some how they always lose their game and end up giving the game away. It would be hard for me to sit here and say that i think the kids are to blame for this . They have amazing talent , handling the ball and around the 3 pt line. This team is stacked with talent and will be dangerous in the tourney. I'm curious to see how they will match up to Holmes. I really think BCHS could take them. #10 Ben Ryan will be the key to the game. if he shuts Jefferson down Boone could pull away with the game. My point is that allot of credit is given to Holmes and HHS and CCH and i'm not saying they dont deserve it but it's not like they are beating teams by 20. I think time will tell.

the highlands game was way early in the season.... not taking anything away from Boone but I don't think they will surprise anyone.... I think the surprise team may be Dixie or Beechwood.

I agree with you that they are not exactly burying people, but the contenders that find a way. They win the games they are suppose to win handely, and pull out the ones that are close. That is what seperates the top 3 from the rest. Speaking of Boone, with their middle school program in 2 years they will be serious 9th region contenders!!!
