Well hopefully a decision is made soon or at least assign an interim head coach. These girls are missing out on June scrimmages and team camps plus a lot of the fund-raising that needs to happen over the summer. I know they have already missed the deadline to get into the NKU team camp and other deadlines are coming up this week for several other camps in this area. The team has been conducting open gyms and strength and conditioning, but it will be disappointing if they miss out on these other opportunities.

Wow! A player that has "talent" would chose not to play because of a coach hiring before they even play a minute for that coach?? If that is true, that is sad. What happended to playing because you had talent and PASSION for the game. If a kid wouldn't play for the reason above, then I would question their passion in the first place. Or is this a situation where mom and dad thinks suzie has talent and susie actually sees the writing on the wall. Talent is in the eyes of the beholder. If they have talent and want to play, they would play! Period!

The administration didn't move too fast when they recently hired their boys bball coach, so I wouldn't see how this would be much different. However, with school being out after today hopefully the possess moves a little faster.

These young ladies have already lived with "get so and so the ball (insert coaches child's name) so they can score, get them the ball because a scout is here and they need more touches, etc. They don't have any reason based on what they have already experienced with the trio of dad coaches on the bench that things will be better with Schwartz. I'm not questioning his passion. I do wonder how many high school coaching positions he has even shown any interest in prior to this opening? If he has applied for others then I admit I am incorrect and he just really wants to coach high school girls. If not, then I have to think there is more to the story. I think everyone agrees the majority of parents think their little Johnny or Suzie has more talent than they probably do. That doesn't change just because a parent puts on a coaching shirt.

Most of you never watch high level AAU teams or coaches. There are alot of bad AAU coaches, but not many bad coaches coaching the Elite teams.

 

While I may admit somewhat to the bolded statement, there are also a lot of bad high school coaches too.

I think the Prep Fan is stating that with the loon culture of parents at Ryle, they need to wipe out all parental involvement and this would be a start. The parent culture at Ryle is some of the worst I've seen. Crazy combo of hillbilly's and Triple Crown money has made it one interesting cesspool at Ryle. Anyone defending them, or offering excuses, is too close to the situation to realize they are part of the problem. "It's ok, this guy will be different." Nope. Same parents but good luck.

It's quite clear that he was only interested in her own well-being, which he should be. It does not show that he is committed to the Ryle program. That 's not to say he won't be. But to turn your point on you,what happens when his daughter is off to the college do they have to find someone else again? Try find someone committed to coaching, not just their daughter and then times up.

I completely understand what you're saying about the previous staff. I've seen it too. However, I've coached against (and with now) Schwartz for years and have NEVER seen that out of him. He is fair and cares about every kid on his teams. Sure, Dad takes over sometimes. But thats usually to be tougher on his kid rather than giving them a free pass or promoting her. I do the same thing when I coach my daughter. It's more of "quit complaining and work harder", not give her the ball so she can show off.

 

Ryle may have had some bad experiences in the past with favoritism, but in these situations, the most pressure is usually on the coach and their kid! If they have a strong relationship and she understands what it will take to be a "coach's kid" (which is very tough on the kid), then they would be fine. With my experiences with him, favoritism won't be an issue.

 

The other thing I'll say is father coaches do know their kid better than every other girls. They know what they will get out of them and what their limits are. In key/intense situations, sometimes they will go with their own kid for multiple reasons. Maybe they trust what they expect and need to get done in certain situations. Maybe its a tough situation to put a different kid into because of the risk of failure and loss of confidence. Maybe its putting her on a defensive assignement that forces her to play the entire game, but keeps someone else from having to do it. Some of these things get perceived as "favoritism" when really it is sacrifice from being a coach's daughter. All of these and many more situations are completely different than "pass Susie the ball".

Well said! There seems to be way to much generalization and it's clear some have a bad taste from prior experiences and obviously some have no idea what they're talking about. It should not be assumed that all coaches that have dons/daughters are alike. The school should look for the best fit for the program and the girls...no doubt he would be an excellent candidate.

If you think you know who it is, why don't you quit playing the guessing game and tell us? Since its not Buddy, is it Scott, Rob, Jesse, Ben, Rodney, Shane, James, Dick, Jane, Bonnie, Clyde or some other AAU coach?
