As I told someone tonight there doesn't seem to be enough pay in the AD role to put up with the hours and aggravation.

The cloud is there from the inside also. Isn't confined to the basketball program. Most just aren't willing to talk about it or opt to quit the sport(s). There's one common denominator, people will make their own assumptions......

I personally am sad to see her leave the program. She is a VERY good coach and really knows the game and how to teach it. The freshman coach has been running the open gyms and strength and conditioning program because Patty has been coaching softball. Not sure if she will continue to run the open gyms or if someone else will be an interim coach and run them.

Would Scott Schwartz, the Shining Stars AAU Coach, be the heir apparent. He seems to have most of the young Ryle talent on his roster.

Hmmmmm. That would be interesting.

Believe that Schwatz would be the next in line. I thnk that he is close to retirement. Scott is a great guy and loves the game.

You couldn't be more wrong. Actually I do not have a daughter in the program. I am a former player. I never had a problem with Coach Oliverio demeaning me or mistreating me in any way. She taught me a lot about the game and pushed me hard to succeed.

You couldn't be more wrong. Actually I do not have a daughter in the program. I am a former player. I never had a problem with Coach Oliverio demeaning me or mistreating me in any way. She taught me a lot about the game and pushed me hard to succeed.

 

This is coming from the outside looking in, and from that perspective, what I saw from both Patti and Steve is the way I was coached. Everyone wants to act like their daughter (or son) is some "delicate little flower". I played HS baseball for a coach that did the exact same thing, my parents never complained one bit, nor did I. We all knew that it was all about being "toughened up". We also knew the coach was not doing it because he had something against me it was his way of demanding and pushing me hard to improve and to execute what was taught. More importantly it was preparing us for life after high school, mommy and daddy aren't going to be with you to hold your hand when you screw up on the job and the boss gives you "nine kinds of hell". It was all about learning how to handle criticism ( DEF. the practice of judging the merits and faults of something or someone in a sometimes negative way).

My coaches were the same way, and I coached the same way. And I love your analogy of delicate flower! For the most part I'm sure everyone will agree with what you've said, I know I do. What I'm talking about is on several occasions they CLEARLY stepped over the line.

PLEASE.....no more Mommy or Daddy coaches at Ryle! It seems like they made a good hire for the boys coach, hopefully it's a new trend out in Union.

I can't say that I think Patty is a great coach but her teams were always a contender. I have talked to several of her former players throughout the years and I must say that most were positive.
