My coaches were the same way, and I coached the same way. And I love your analogy of delicate flower! For the most part I'm sure everyone will agree with what you've said, I know I do. What I'm talking about is on several occasions they CLEARLY stepped over the line.

 

A little humility never hurt nobody, but there is a fine line. When it comes to demeaning & degrading, I would agree there is no place for these.

 

If this is the case was it ever brought up to the Ryle Admin. ??? What was the response from the Ryle Admin.? I'm not doubting your word.

I'm just curious about the others posting about their experiences and the response they got (or didn't get), that's all.

 

I am in no way trying to discredit yours or any other individuals experience. I am well aware of your situation and your stance on the matter and I truly respect your position.

Lawnboy, be carefull. you are opening up some old wounds that really need to heal. I also can testify to the verbal abuses already mentioned in this thread and elsewhere. I had two nieces transfer out of that program because the situation became intolerable. Verbal abuse was part of this woman's coaching style. In our case, there were multiple meetings with the administration that resulted in NO CHANGE in behavior. In fact, playing time was reduced as a direct consequence of approaching the administration.

 

If someone else was coaching this program, it would of had Jenna Crittenden and Sydney Moss playing at the same time. The list of players that have transferred out of this program in just the last 5 five years were collected, you would have an instant state title contended, and maybe even a national power.

For those that didn't get it, I was being sarcastic and making a joke. The suggestion that Moss left Ryle and went to Boone to get less screaming and demanding is really very funny. Wouldn't Oliveros to Fookes be "out of the frying pan and into the fire?"

If a coach can get their message across without using them great. However, if they do let 'em fly so be it, as long as it is not constant. I hope no one is that naive to think boys or girls high school age have not used this word a time or two, much to a parents chagrin.

Not trying to be disrespectful but I disagree with both your points. From a coaching perspective I have Never felt like I couldn't get my point across without using the F-Bomb. A coach that curses means either they a lack of discipline or a lack of vocabulary you decide. And yes I have been fortunate enough to coach many kids who believe it or not their parents have actually taken the time to raise them right and they do not use that kind of language and what a disgrace it would be for those kids to be hearing F-Bombs from their coaches. Believe it or not there is still right and wrong in this world and in coaching either your a force for one or the other. I choose to be a force for what is right and my kids will never be subjected to that kind of language from myself or any of our coaches.

LB, how do you choose to pick the f-bomb comment to focus on? Skim over the actual issue that Pick6 and I have talked about on here several times...personal attacks, demeaning comments, intimidation, bullying? You think I am worried about my daughter having the f-bomb said to her? You think being pushed to do well is the issue at hand with Patti (either in basketball or softball)? No!! My kid pushes herself harder than Patti could ever begin to think about pushing her. It is the verbal attacks or the verbal bashing done to players either about themselves or their teammates that is wrong, along with so many other things too long to mention. Always has been wrong, always will be wrong. Unfortunately it has been accepted as the "coaching norm" by most and excuses continue to be made for coaches like Patti.

 

I know she's not done anything personal to you or to your daughter. I felt the same way when I was pre-warned by several about her coaching style before Haylee played for her. I said "well she hasn't done that to us".....guess what, it eventually happens! Her other whipping girls were gone and the intimidation had to fall on someone. Guess once you are in the program for 4 years, they figure you are good to go with the treatment and can do/say what they want at will. Bet they see now that doesn't work in this house. Yet their egos were too big to admit fault when we first addressed this directly with them. They are not at fault for anything, really sit down and talk to them for longer than your delivery route probably affords you and you'll catch on.....or better yet, see if NCC will hire them & bring along their winning ways. Then get back to me on how you think things are going couple years from now. Just do me a favor, please stop skimming over the actual coaching issue some people have with her; either address it all or not at all.

I'm with LB on the issue of F-bombs. Doesn't get my dander up unless it's in a degrading manner. I've got more problems with a coach that says "you stink" than I do with a coach that says "make the f-ing play."
