May 15, 201313 yr IRS approved liberal groups while Tea Party in limbo WASHINGTON -- In February 2010, the Champaign Tea Party in Illinois received approval of its tax-exempt status from the IRS in 90 days, no questions asked. That was the month before the Internal Revenue Service started singling out Tea Party groups for special treatment. There wouldn't be another Tea Party application approved for 27 months. As applications from conservative groups sat in limbo, groups with liberal-sounding names had their applications approved in as little as nine months. With names including words like "Progress" or "Progressive," the liberal groups applied for the same tax status and were engaged in the same kinds of activities as the conservative groups.
May 15, 201313 yr Claim: Obama Campaign Co-Chair Attacked Romney with Leaked IRS Docs NOM, a pro-traditional marriage organization, claims the IRS leaked their 2008 confidential financial documents to the rival Human Rights Campaign. Those NOM documents were published on the Huffington Post on March 30, 2012. At that time, Joe Solmonese, a left-wing activist and Huffington Post contributor, was the president of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). Solmonese was also a 2012 Obama campaign co-chairman.
May 15, 201313 yr Saw another headline about the IRS leaking personal information about conservatives. This could lead to criminal charges, not just someone losing their job.
May 15, 201313 yr The IRS wants YOU ? to share everything - David Nather and Tarini Parti and Byron Tau - POLITICO.com A POLITICO review of documents from 11 tea party and conservative groups that the IRS scrutinized in 2012 shows the agency wanted to know everything — in some cases, it even seemed curious what members were thinking. The review included interviews with groups or their representatives from Hawaii, New Mexico, Ohio, Texas and elsewhere. The long-awaited Treasury Department inspector general report released Tuesday says the agency itself decided some of its questions to conservative groups were way over the line — especially the one about donors. The report shows that top IRS officials put a stop to some of the questions in early 2012, including the ones that asked tea party groups who their donors were, what issues were important to them and whether their top officers ever planned to run for office. And they told the investigators they planned to destroy the donor lists that had already been sent in. But interviews with members of the groups paint a more dramatic picture than the bland language of the report, which just says the IRS “requested irrelevant (unnecessary) information because of a lack of managerial review, at all levels, of questions before they were sent to organizations seeking tax-exempt status.” “They were asking for a U-Haul truck’s worth of information,” said Toby Marie Walker, the president of the Waco Tea Party. Some groups even gave up in the face of the IRS questions. Several of the groups were asked for résumés of top officers and descriptions of interviews with the media. One group was asked to provide “minutes of all board meetings since your creation.” Some of the letters asked for copies of the groups’ Web pages, blog posts and social media postings — making some tea party members worry they’d be punished for their tweets or Facebook comments by their followers.
May 15, 201313 yr No only you....your children...without your knowledge.... Document: IRS ordered conservative educational group to turn over a list of high school and college students it trained | Mail Online When a Tennessee lawyer asked the IRS for tax-exempt status for a mentoring group that trained high school and college students about conservative political philosophy, the agency responded with a list of 95 questions in 31 parts, including an ultimatum for a list of everyone the group had trained, or planned to train. 'Provide details regarding all training you have provided or will provide,' the IRS demanded. 'Indicate who has received or will receive the training and submit copies of the training material.' ... 'Can you imagine my responsibility to parents if I disclosed the names of their children to the IRS?' he asked MailOnline.
May 15, 201313 yr Carney said IRS actions were 'inappropriate' again today. I would assume 'illegal actions' worthy of jail time are a subset of 'inappropriate actions'.
May 15, 201313 yr Today Obama should fire one Steve Miller . Not partisan or politically motivated ? earth to steve miller earth to steve miller . Why should Steve Miller be fired? Just would like to hear how you reply to this to see how much you really know about the IRS and how it operates. This whole mess and much of the other BS that goes on in Washington are exactly why the country is in the mess it is. Perhaps they should abolish the IRS and then lets see how all of the freeloaders can survive, which would be those who receive government benefits of any kind.
May 15, 201313 yr Jon Stewart on youtube is great... No live link. Lots of bleeping in his rant. Interesting backdrop used...
May 15, 201313 yr IRS approved liberal groups while Tea Party in limbo ... OK, but you know that resulted in no actual harm, right? While your approval is pending, you get to behave like a non-profit. A longer wait time is meaningless.

May 15, 201313 yr Sounds like harassment to me. My point is, I don't see a scandal in the delay in and of itself. The delay is an obvious byproduct of the targeting, and resulted in zero additional harm.

A longer wait time is meaningless. Those three words speak volumes about you and where you stand. A over powerful, over reaching federal govt that can make some "jump through hoops", while letting others "cruise through" is a HUGE problem at any level. Folks, this is only the beginning of the type of problems we will experience with ObamaCare.

The delay is an obvious byproduct of the targeting, and resulted in zero additional harm.I suppose that when you and I need an organ transplant in the future , you won't mind if I get moved to the front of the line due to me possibly having "political connections"? This CRAP can go both ways, and neither is good for you, me, or the country.
May 15, 201313 yr I suppose that when you and I need an organ transplant in the future , you won't mind if I get moved to the front of the line due to me possibly having "political connections"? This CRAP can go both ways, and neither is good for you, me, or the country. The only way that analogy works is if in the future you get a loaner organ that is totally identical to a real one as long as you wait. That'd be pretty cool.
