May 8, 201313 yr He has grown on me. I thought it was a bad hire by the Reds. He is sooo much better than I ever expected him to be. When I see his moves questioned by you and/or others, I agree with Dusty about 90% of the time. Didn't realize your baseball IQ was so low. I kid, in all seriousness, I'm the opposite. Thought it was a great hire at the time, have done a complete 180 since then. His last game can't come soon enough IMO.
May 8, 201313 yr Author First I've heard this... Yep, since Collins came out, I thought I should come clean on my disdain for Dusty. I expect a call from Michelle Obama soon. Probably be on Oprah next week.
May 8, 201313 yr How much longer does Choo have to keep this up before the Reds start seriously thinking about bringing him back?
May 8, 201313 yr Tonight he got it right. What happens if it goes extras? You wonder what's the defensive alignment then? You think he thought that far? Yeah... Meso or Corky would've stayed in to catch... And thats about all the changes? Still had Robinson on the bench if he needed him... I'm not sure what you propose he should've done rather than 'deplete his bench'... Starter only gave him 5 innings and he was down. What was he supposed to do? Let a relief pitcher hit?
May 8, 201313 yr 18th all-time. Pretty good for a guy that's just a friend. He's also 17th all-time in games managed--he'd have to be well below average to not be in the top 18 in wins. Only one of those managers that is ahead of him in both wins and games managed doesn't have a World Series like Dusty. I do have to give him credit. He's been able to manage more games than everyone except one other manager without winning a World Series.
May 8, 201313 yr How much longer does Choo have to keep this up before the Reds start seriously thinking about bringing him back? Oh I bet they're thinkin' about it all right... They're also probably hoping that either ticket sales or fruit and vegetable sales go through the roof this summer and maybe they can realistically think about it. Hopefully I'm wrong.

The night before in the same type situation he let Arroyo hit and then replaced him before the next inning.
May 8, 201313 yr Also, I read where when asked about the Meso homer, Medlen commented that "that ball is an out at most ballparks." That's an Oscar Mayer Bologna excuse. Pitcher's use it a lot when there is a loss like this to the Reds. Bottom line is is that your guys had 27 outs in the same ballpark and didn't get it done. Tip your cap, tell the media he hit a good pitch out of the ballpark, and move on. No excuses. Edited May 8, 201313 yr by Randy Parker Rule 8

I'm not sure what you propose he should've done rather than 'deplete his bench'... Starter only gave him 5 innings and he was down. What was he supposed to do? Let a relief pitcher hit? I obviously love Dusty, but he could have pinch hit Robinson instead of Frazier for Paul against the left hander. Knowing that the Braves would have Kimbrel for the 9th, and that Robinson can't hit left handed right now it would have been smarter to save Frazier for 9th inning.
May 8, 201313 yr Oh I bet they're thinkin' about it all right... They're also probably hoping that either ticket sales or fruit and vegetable sales go through the roof this summer and maybe they can realistically think about it. Hopefully I'm wrong. Bronson Arroyo's $11.5M comes off the books this season--he can be replaced by Cingrani's league minimum. Ludwick can be bought out for $4.5M which would save $4M from his salary this season. If Hamilton is ready you could buy Ludwick out, if not you should still be able to sign Choo for the money saved from Arroyo.
May 8, 201313 yr The night before in the same type situation he let Arroyo hit and then replaced him before the next inning. Yeah... He was sac bunting... If he was making the decision to sac bunt there, you would likely rather it be your pitcher bunting than a pinch hitter.... If he was going to let someone swing away, then maybe he uses a PH, but not if he's putting the bunt on. So basically what you're arguing against isn't the fact that Bronson is PH, it's the decision to bunt the runner to second.

Probably a more unrealistic scenario, but I wonder if they may start to reconsider moving Hamilton from SS....With how God-awful Cozart is at the plate, it has to at least be in the back of their minds.
