August 5, 201313 yr Blake Bone says he has decided where he will commit. Will announce in a couple of weeks.
August 5, 201313 yr There's been some talk comparing Barker to Couch and I think that those are a little far fetched. Just to put the type of hype Couch had coming into Kentucky into perspective, check this ESPN Page 2 article listing the top 10 high school athletes in any sport: ESPN.com - Page2 - The List: Best high school athletes ever Not saying Barker is a bad player or unworthy of the hype, just that he's got nowhere near the fanfare as Couch and/or some people are forgetting the type of talent Couch was.

The good thing for Barker is it looks like he's going to be surrounded by better talent than what Couch was. With that said I think the SEC has also evolved into a whole other animal than what it was 15-20 years ago.

I think this is a fair assessment, though I have never seen Barker play in person (I'm planning for that to change this football season). I think Couch was the Gatorade Player of the Year nationally his senior year. Regardless, I'm pumped that Barker chose Kentucky & am really looking forward to seeing him play this year.

I think Couch was the Gatorade Player of the Year nationally his senior year. Regardless, I'm pumped that Barker chose Kentucky & am really looking forward to seeing him play this year. Definitely. I think Barker will be a good player in time, but I think the Couch comparisons are putting A LOT of unfair pressure on the kid. Injuries and being on an expansion team plagued him in the pros, and I think Couch's arm might have been, for lack of a better term, "thrown out" at some point just from the volume of passes he threw (an arm only has so many throws), but he was still the guy who took UK from the Curry era to the Outback Bowl and he's the guy Tennessee fans wanted to replace Peyton Manning, etc. That's a lot of pressure an expectations for a kid who hasn't played a down in his senior year. I'm ecstatic that he picked UK and he looks like a born leader whose doing work on the recruiting trail, but I hope fans' expectations for him are tempered a bit, if nothing else, for Barker's own sake. He has the potential to do great things on the field, but it will probably take some time for him to develop. Everyone remembers Woodson's senior year, but no one talks about the year he switched hands near the goal line and lost the ball in the Louisville game or his struggles replacing Boyd as a redshirt freshman. Not trying to dog Woodson, just wanted to be realistic about the growing pains that even some of the most memorable Cats have suffered.

I think it's also a poor comparison. Both players had totally different styles. The one thing both have in common is great arm strength. the big difference imo is that Barker can do more with his feet than Couch ever could. Couch was the consummate pocket passer, while Barker can throw inside and outside of the pocket and take off on his own to get you some much needed yardage. I really hope though that in college Drew doesn't make a habit of running, I'd hate to see him get hurt. Much different facing a LB in High School that weighs 175 lbs compared to a LB in the SEC that is tipping the scales at 250.
