April 24, 201313 yr Has anyone ever done this? Would you pick up one doing it today? Used to do this a lot in my younger days when I didn't have money to even ride a bus. After guy didn't head in the direction he stated, I bolted at the first stop light. Didn't hitchhike again after that.
April 24, 201313 yr I also did back in the day when I was teen just to get around. But I'd have to say no way would I pick up a hitchhiker today.
April 24, 201313 yr Never hitchhiked myself, but have picked up probably a handful of people. I've not had any problems I once picked up a younger guy maybe 14 or so, and dropped him near his driveway. After leaving there my buddy and I drive up on a girl around the same age and turns out they had both snuck out and met up. We ended up dropping her off by here driveway as well.

April 24, 201313 yr I pick up a few every once in a while around my hometown that I knew from school days. They don't remember or recognize me, but I know they are just wanting a ride.

April 24, 201313 yr Never done it, and I would not pick up a guy hitchhicking, but would be more likely to give a ride to a woman. Simple reasoning, I feel much more confident, if a threat did arise, I'd be able to neutralize it more quickly if it were a woman, instead of a man. JMO.
April 24, 201313 yr Me and my brothers would hitchhike all the time as young teenagers. Our parents only owned one car, and Pops took it to work. It was mostly around town to get to and from practice and games, but we did bum a ride out of state a couple of times.
