I had to hitchhike whenever I wanted to go anywhere starting in fifth grade. I was not the fav child of my parents so I had no other choice.

 

 

I have picked up a lot people hitching rides over the years.

 

The only time I almost had a problem was one night many years ago I was on my way home from work and I went against my better judgement and picked up two guys. One got in front and one in the back with the one in the back sliding over close to my side, so I knew something was up,so I started speeding going about 90 and then slid my brass knuckles on, that had 4 razor sharp skeletons on each knuckle. I looked over and said do y'all think these old things would do much damage and I slid them across the palm of my hand bringing some blood as it went cut me just a little. Then after the one in the back slid back over to the far side of the car, I said you know I am not past wrecking this old car as I went just a little faster. For some reason those guys wanted off at the first exit we came to.

Hitchhiked more times than I can count when I was young. It was just a common thing.

 

Haven't seen a hitchhiker in a long time. Last one was a lady and her son carrying a gas can. I picked them up.

My first three years in high school (mid seventies) I hitchhiked home from track practice every day, about 12 miles. Never than to walk more then two to three miles on any given day.

Has anyone ever done this?

No and no.

Hitched and picked up on occasion back in the day.

 

Would probably only pick up someone I knew now.

I did see a hitcher yesterday and thought to myself that it was the first I've seen in a month of Sundays.

Hitch hiked from Morehead to Louisville many times in the early to mid 70's while in college. Lots of people did it thn. Never had any problems. I neer had a car to pick up any one.
