Former Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer has been indicted by a federal grand jury, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Lexington announced Monday morning.

The indictment charges Farmer with four counts of misusing and misappropriating funds from the Department of Agriculture. It also charges him with one count of soliciting property in exchange for influencing department actions.

The charges allege the taking of guns, watches and knives bought as gifts for a convention in 2008.

Each of the five counts carries a penalty of 10 years and a fine of up to $250,000. But any sentence following a conviction would be imposed by a judge under federal court sentencing guidelines.

No court appearance has been set.

FWIW I always though he was an arrogant little :poop:

Will he see the inside of a jail cell as a result or does he have some wiggle room to avoid prison? Is there any precedence we can use for a case like this when it comes to sentencing?

Several elected officials from of all places Clay County did see the inside of a prison after being indicted and convicted for corruption. I think this being Federal there is a much better chance that he spends time inside than if it was state charges.

I wonder if there is any way his mustache can be exempt from all these legal proceedings.

Maybe the warden will need a shooter from deep. Kinda "Longest Yard", basketball version.

Why was he walking with a walker in the photo in the article?

Well played Jumper, well played.

That mustache will be known by a completely different name in prison according to what I learned by watching Comedy Central's roast of Jeff Foxworthy.

The federal government hits at a pretty good clip.

How good?

Last year, I believe they reported a 99% conviction rate. Most of that was pled out, but still.

I would be surprised if he didn't see jail. Usually when the FEDS comes knocking, they get their man/woman.

I think there is little doubt that Richie broke the law and will need to be held accountable. I do think it interesting that some of the State employees who benefited the most are now apparently throwing Richie under the bus....probably to to save their own skin.

Many are saying that while they too may have performed illegal/unethical acts, they were only doing what Richie asked them to do....they "had to do it", as he was their boss!! The Ethics Commission has found this to be such a lame excuse they issued an advisory opinion addressing it. Link here http://ethics.ky.gov/Advisory%20Opinions/AO%2013-02.pdf

That was an old picture. I think he just had received hip replacement surgery at the time.

He was recovering from hip-replacement surgery at the time
