Yes, they were afforded the best coach "available" at the time in Coach Flynn, who had a resume like no other that applied 4 yrs ago. He had over 500 wins at bball schools like Holmes and Ashland. Not too shabby. As far as being challenged, I cannot say since I was not at practice, but I have no reason to think otherwise. The man has to know what he is doing based on his career record. Players who make plays put teams at a championship level.

Flynn may have been the best candidate on paper but he knew nothing about Highlands. That was his doom and he could never put the best Highlands athletes on the floor.

Coach Flynn would have never taken the Highlands job had he known what he would have to deal with and the amount of rear ends he would have to kiss.

He did not kiss rear ends and he also did not know that kids drank Blue Koolaid in the 6th grade...

2 different arguments. All anyone had to go on 4 yrs ago was what was on paper and what info his references provided. Hindsight is always 20/20 is a saying for a reason. So this is a moot point.

 

In your original post on this topic you said the kids were shortchanged and that implies a lack of effort I never witnessed. It also does not speak of Coach Flynn's impact on these kids off the court, in preparing the boys for life etc.

 

Also, even if the "best" athletes in the school had shown up to play it may not have even been enough to win a district championship given the team that NCC put on the floor last season, let alone a region or state championship.

FWIW, Iam not blaming Flynn on his run and Iam sure on paper he looked like a no brainer for the job, it just didnt work out...

I really do not care if he ends up on the bench if his son gets the job, but I find it interesting that Highlands fans would want him there. The reason I say this is, one of the 'complaints' that was always out there with Mike is he did not want his players participating in other sports. I personally did not see nor agree with this, but it was always out there during his tenure at Cov Cath. So, you Highlnads folks want that?

 

That might have been Mike's policy, but it certainly wasn't Kevin's. If I remember correctly we had at least 6 players on our basketball team my senior year, 03-04 at Boone County, that played football, soccer, and baseball (some played three sports).

Iam a football and baseball guy and Iam personally embarrassed of the current boys basketball program.

I dont fault the kids that played this past year and years past, they gave 110% but apparently they have been shortchanged by their leaders.

The Listerman connection does not bother me nor should it bother most if not all at Highlands.

You insinuate that Highlands football may not approve of Listerman policy of Basketball only...

Well, you can do that at a school like CovCath that has 600 plus boys but you can't do that at a Highlands that has 350 boys. The best athletes will have to play multiple sports at Highlands for them to be successful and Football will not suffer from this policy, ie-Baseball is resurrecting.

Oh BTW, 150 of the 350 are playing football 9-12....Just sayin...

 

Honestly was not trying to spin it at all - just asking the question to see what the Highlands fans thought about it. I have had sons in the basketball program at Cov Cath and that was the opinion on Listerman, voiced loudly by those inside and outside Cov Cath - So I was curious why it seemed Highlands faithful would want a guy whose reputation was wanted one sport only guys. Again, I did not agree with the reputation but it was/is out there.

What football kids are on the fence? Those that "really" want to play the game of basketball have been or should be getting to open gyms. If word gets out that Coach is going to be at the "open" gym, you can bet they will be coming out of the woodwork.

The only way that they could possibly play would be if a parent were to organize them and have them compete in a league somewhere. There are none that are a part of an organization that I am aware of. There is a possibility still that the rising Soph's may be organized to play, but that is still up in the air.

Any parents in that age group that have coached some AAU?
