April 12, 201313 yr Wow. Found my words again... Men can't practice self control? Men can't assume responsibility for themselves? On the same token women can't say no? I don't disagree at all that men should take responsibility but until biology changes the woman is going to carry the child. She doesn't want to get pregnant then she either needs to say no or take BC matters into her own hands and not rely on her partner to do it. At the risk of being tagged as a misogynistic a woman who doesn't want to get pregnant and has sex is practicing risky behavior even with birth control. A woman who doesn't want to get pregnant and has sex without making sure there is birth control involved is less then intelligent.
April 12, 201313 yr I am not "pro abortion in any way, shape or form, but if R v W is ever overturned, there will be just as heinous treatment, but with much less oversight. Slavery was once legal. It was made illegal, yet there are still slaves - in 2001 it was estimated that there were between 50 and 100 thousand sex slaves in the United States alone. Does that mean we shouldn't have made it illegal?

But it seems no one cares that abortions will still occur, just that it is illegal.

Men who have sex without protecting themselves from getting a woman pregnant are equally lacking in intelligence. Never put your fate in someone else's hands. Men can day no as well as any woman. Men can make sure they wear condoms as well as women use the pill, or any other method of birth control for women.
April 12, 201313 yr You actually make my point for me. Legislation will not eradicate abortion. But it seems no one cares that abortions will still occur, just that it is illegal. Obviously it will never be eradicated but I wonder what it will do to the numbers. I would think it would greatly reduce the number of abortions performed. Of course, there are new problems that would arise from the greater number of births to parents that either didn't want the child or can't afford the child.

There's no doubt that numbers will be reduced, though. I am in favor of any way that we can reduce the number of babies murdered by abortion...even if it is just one less.

No disagreement from me on this but until biology changes I find it laughable that any woman who doesn't want to get pregnant would have sex without making sure there was a preventative action being taken and then complain that they have to be the one responsible for BC. Tell the guy no condom, no sex. Easy. The truth is (unfair as it may be) is that 100% of the pregnancy will be taken on by the woman. In my limited reasoning that gives her more reason to make sure one doesn't happen if she doesn't want it to.

And, in my limited reasoning, a man shouldn't assume a woman has "got it covered" with birth control. Men are just as able to say "No condom, no sex.".
April 12, 201313 yr There's no doubt that numbers will be reduced, though. I am in favor of any way that we can reduce the number of babies murdered by abortion...even if it is just one less. Making abortion illegal will not stop the murders. It will CREATE murderers unless we do something to severely impact unintended pregnancies. And, I don't mean this as a mean thing, but your last phrase "even if it's just one less"....why are you satisfied with that? I would rather see a real initiative to work with (especially) young men and young women to promote self-respect, responsibility and safe sex. I'd love to see a huge iniative toward domestic adoption reforms. I'd love to see scads of people physically working with and aiding pregnant women in crisis, and further, helping them after the birth.
April 12, 201313 yr Well, biology isn't going to change. And, in my limited reasoning, a man shouldn't assume a woman has "got it covered" with birth control. Men are just as able to say "No condom, no sex.". Again we don't disagree and I can assure you if it was me I would make sure that something was being done BUT because of Biology it seems logical to me that a woman who wants to be sexually active and not get pregnant would take it upon herself to make sure protection is used and wouldn't see it as a burden, especially now that BCP and IUDs are free and condoms aren't.

Of course, there are new problems that would arise from the greater number of births to parents that either didn't want the child or can't afford the child. I don't know how drastically it would reduce the numbers. I do feel that in addition to the increased number of unwanted births, there will be increased risk of "butchers" out there giving unskilled, and unsafe treatment to women, and increased pregnancy & birth-related illnesses and deaths. There would be no oversight of the people performing the surgeries. There will also be an increased number of criminals, mostly women. And there will still be no consequences for the sperm donors.

Why can't abortion be made illegal AND a real initiative towards responsible and sage sex be done as well?? And as for creating murderers, if the number of abortions is reduced (even if it is only by a small number), then how are we creating murderers? Abortion IS murder.

Maybe I misread this: There's no doubt that numbers will be reduced, though. I am in favor of any way that we can reduce the number of babies murdered by abortion...even if it is just one less. As to the bolded in your immediate past reply, at this point, legally it's not murder. As to the rest of your reply, where are all the threads calling for and discussing ways to prevent unintended pregnancies? Where are the threads discussing deadbeat parents, abused children, and lack of realistic domestic adoption reform? Where are the threads devoted to ways we can help unwed mothers? Where are the threads discussing ways to mentor young men and women and help keep them on track? Where are those threads? Why only threads calling for the overturn of R v W, and the discussion of the morality of abortion? Are votes, billboards and angry speech all we're capable of in this country? We all can sit and point to what's wrong and immoral. Where is the discussion of (and then the down and dirty involvment in), real, tactical solutions to solving the issue?
April 12, 201313 yr I agree, but the guy shouldn't have to be fully responsible, it ain't his legs that are spread. Stunned. C'mon MR. You can do better than that. Reread your words.
