April 12, 201313 yr I absolutely am not trying to say one should quit fighting to overturn RvW. What I am saying is that it's not enough to just fight to make abortion illegal. And it makes me angry that so many people feel all they have to do is cast their vote for the right candidate and their duty is done. I work with these girls because I once was an unwed pregnant teen, scared to death of everything about it. I was fortunate enough to meet an angel of a woman who stood by me through making my decision to keep my baby, stood with me when I married the father (a bigger mistake than getting pregnant), and stood by me and took me in when my husband decided his girlfriend was a better life than his wife and 2 kids. She has stood by me through thick and thin, and I had a great example of what it takes to make the kinds of impact in the life of a woman in crisis that will result in a birth, not an abortion. But let me tell you, there are fewer and fewer people willing to be involved on a day in and day out basis. I don't work with any formal organization. There is just a group of us who have loosely organized to do what we can to help. My point isn't that abortion should be legal. My efforts in these threads is to call attention to the fact that making abortion illegal isn't the "solution". Believe it or not, we're on the same page. I just choose to focus the largest amount of energy "on the ground" so to speak. There's more than enough people fighting for legislation, but not nearly enough becoming a part of these women's everyday lives. Well it seemed to me that your statement that "I am not "pro abortion" in any way, shape or form, but if R v W is ever overturned, there will be just as heinous treatment, but with much less oversight." was a statement of defeat, saying that, "Well, it'll just happen anyway...so why not make it happen in a medical setting?" I understand that there is more to solving all of the problem than just outlawing abortion...but at least those children born to crisis situations - no matter how bad the situation may be - have SOME KIND of fighting chance. That's my perspective. I understand that we are on the same page. And I really, really TRULY appreciate what you're doing. Helping mothers in crisis situations is a serious part of what the New Hope Center and Care Net do. They're all part of the same battle: giving kids a chance at having happy lives. Still, the first step in having a happy life is ALWAYS surviving to birth.
