Impending Korean War?

I can't see China backing NK in this one as they are now a world power in commerce. I think they're tired of NK and I hope they don't want to damage their growing economy.

He was educated in Switzerland and reports are the exact opposite. Many think this is leaders in the military.
Some of the craziest people are actually very intelligent. But they are still crazy.

Lil Kim is a nut case, and so was his dad. If he executes any kind of strike it will not end well for him.

Anybody else see Olympus Has Fallen yet, makes you want to wipe this little :poop: of the face of the planet

This is all just bravado and bluster by North Korea any time a new member of the Kim family takes over we have similar responses. The biggest reason Kim Jong-Un is doing this is because he doesn't have the military experience of his father or grandfather so he needs to up the rhetoric to compensate. Little will come of this in the grand scheme of things.

I agree with Pep that this is bluster. I think that North Korea is desperate to be a world power and it doesn't have the capability, so it resorts to provocation and rhetoric to win attention. I also think there's a domestic component as well. News of the outside world does occasionally trickle in and it's in Un's best interest to keep up some kind of appearance as a powerful country. I also wonder if he's not also appeasing his military leaders. Certainly they are aware of the falsity of the propaganda that keeps the population in line, but they might genuinely believe North Korea to be a military might.

There's no question North Korea has dangerous potential. But it's also not suicidal. So far their actions, while belligerent, have never lived up to their claims. There is a line they know they can't cross. But, I'm not sure what the solution is. China has a stake in keeping North Korea stable. They don't want millions flooding across the border looking for refuge and will likely make enemies of anyone who causes that. That complicates the issue beyond just North Korea. My guess is the bluster will wane once Un can claim some sort of moral victory. But, I'm not sure South Korea and Japan can abide the persistent fear that one of Un's provocations will eventually prove catastrophic.

Oh I agree for the most part. I still think this is just a lot of political posturing on Un's part but the fact remains is that he is a new leader and we don't know for sure how he goes about things like his father did. Plus, it has appeared Un has taken things quite a lot farther than most in this little situation without crossing any "the point of no return" lines. However we have to take some level of precaution just in case these aren't just empty threats so I'm glad the U.S. has at least taken some measures to counter a possible outbreak of war.
