March 27, 201313 yr Miller, Jorts and Liggins all in recent years. How many does Louisville have in that same amount of time? Why did you pick UL? Just because I offer an opinion of why people don't like how the program is ran I'm getting painted as a UL guy? Okay. Since you asked: Knowles, Russ, Deing (I think that's how you spell it), that's what I can come up with off the top of my head. If you want me to dig back the past couple years, then you can do that yourself. Who stuck around from last years team? Wiltjer, that's it. Hopefully some of the interior guys from this year's team will stick around and add some depth to the front-court next year, while also bringing in a year of experience and the bad taste in their mouth to keep the young guys on top of their game.

I pick UL because with the team they have this year, I hear a lot of anti one and done stuff from them. In reality, there are a variety of ways to win a title. Nobody stuff around from last years team, that is one of the only bad things about winning it all. Knowles developed a lot but not an NBA guy. I know some will say, that isn't what it is all about, but to most top level college basketball players, yes it is.
March 27, 201313 yr So after just reading the title of the thread I am assuming that all UL needs to do to win next year is target a small thermal exhaust port just below UK's main port?
March 27, 201313 yr Tubby Smith did things "the right way." Doing things "the right way" gets you run out of town and fired. What is "the right way" anyway?
March 27, 201313 yr Sorry if I come off a bit harsh BBJ, but I dont see how anyone can argue with Cal's system. It gets team results and personal results with the NBA, or the best of both worlds. This year was an outlier. The reason this season failed was 1) the talent in this class was the weakest in recent memory. 2) No point guard. 3) Your best player goes down and makes a thin bench anorexic. 3) No leader. To the no leader part, freshman can become leaders ask MKG and Davis. But I do agree it does take a few veteran guys to help gel a team. And I don't think Darius develops the way he did if Cal wasn't the coach. Back to the article. Kind of fun that a UL fan wants to write about a NIT team when his team has a great shot to win it all.
March 27, 201313 yr I don't know, they don't show that stuff on sportscenter and I honestly don't care enough to keep up with it. Do you know the answer without looking? I honestly would be interested to know. I remember seeing Vince Carter graduate at UNC a couple years after he left early for the NBA, but that stuff doesn't really make the national news anymore. Don't put a lot of weight into an athlete getting a UNC degree these days.

I think it's a perfect system when you a good blend of great young talent, and sprinkle in a little old talent as well. Most teams get one, maybe two guys who can start when they are freshman, so when they see a team get 4-5 IN ONE YEAR fans get envious. It's the nature of the beast, someone gets something better than you, you want that something better. I think people perceive the "right way" as being what Coach K is doing down in Durham. Just my guess.

Just my guess. Duke is a special case and always has been under Coach K. After all, you're talking about someone that is considered one of the (and in some circles THE) greatest coach in the history of the game.
March 27, 201313 yr My only issue with the article is that it lacks creativity. It is the same thing we hear over and over again. Give me something new besides trying to go Star Wars on us.

Your not telling me nothing new.
March 27, 201313 yr I guess what gets me about the present time is that there is a good chance that every kid recruited from last season with the exception of Noel (you know, the #1 recruit in the country) will be returning to school.
March 27, 201313 yr Author I thought this was an interesting tid bit in an interview with Eric Prosbell of USA Today. “First of all, a lot of guys will say (they are reluctant to coach one-and-done players) because they can’t recruit those types of kids. To justify it, they’ll say, ‘I couldn’t do it. I need kids for four years.’ Those other kids don’t want to come and play for you." -John Calipari Alright I get it if you're a coach who likes to recruit a different type of player, but I think Cal has the cold hard truth right here with this statement. A coach cannot be serious when they say, " I wouldn't recruit those players ", etc. Another little question I have for some of you is, What is more impressive, getting 4* and 3* players and developing them over 3-4 years, or getting 5* players and bonding the team in one season, and fighting egos all year?
March 27, 201313 yr What gets me is when coaches/fans/media act like certain teams don't recruit top level kids because of a different philosophy . How many 5 star guys has Louisville had or Pitino recruited? A bunch.
March 27, 201313 yr Let's say Louisville does win the title this year, will it "mean" any more than UK's did last year? Of course not. Again, people want to pretend like Cal is writing the rules when, in fact, he is very outspoken about not liking them. All I can think about, is when Bill Bellamy made the infamous quote in the movie "How to be a Playa" , of "Don't hate the playa, hate the game" coming to mind? That's right. I just brought back 1997....... Last year I remember anti UK fans pulling the "one and done" stuff and crapping all over the belief? Well, we all know why they didn't like that crew last year...b/c none of those schools were able to get them. I doubt any diehard UL fans would have been crying a river had Davis, MKG, etc wore their jersey(s).
March 28, 201313 yr Coach Cal recruits 3 and 4 star recruits as well. Willis and Hawkins are both in that category. A lot of those players don't turn into great players because they aren't as skilled. Not every recruiting class has the feel good story of the nothing rising to glory over their college career like the Miller's and Liggins. Just doesn't happen. College coaches are hired by the university for a few things: To win, to create revenue, and to recruit the best basketball players possible. Cal didn't create the one and done rule, so why do people get upset when his players leave? It's his job to get the best players, it's the players decision to turn pro. At schools like UK you have to win to keep your job. The best way to win is to have the best players as seen last year. I will never understand the argument of Cal does things the wrong way.
