March 26, 201313 yr The only part I really dislike about it that you rarely, if ever, will get to watch another player like Darius Miller grow and expand their skills while at UK for four years. That and the problem with having to buy new jerseys every year. Though #3 appears to have been a good jersey if you held onto it. Biggest cop out of a statement I've heard. I'd rather have the talent now than have to wait 4 years. Wonder how UL felt waiting 4 years for Siva to develop while UK went to an elite 8, 2 final 4's and a national championship on pratically a new roster every year. You got em this year though.

But the shield down, I'm not "hating on UK." I think Calipari is doing a great job; not sure where you get I think otherwise? I specifically said "People see the university as being a one-year NBA prep stop, instead of being a place where you get an education and play basketball." I then went on to spell out how I don't like missing the chance to watch players develop. Have you watched Michigan State this year? Do you remember Derrick Nix when he arrived to MSU? He was nothing but a big, fat blob of man. In four years, the kids has transformed his body completely, and has drastically improved on his game. If you do not find joy in watching a player mature then so be it; if you want to hate on me for finding joy in it, then good for you. I bet a lot more people stand in my corner than they would in yours. If you have read any of my earlier posts, which you haven't had the chance to because you hooped on this site this month, I think Siva is no better today than he was two or three years ago. He is a terrible point guard and will eventually cost UL their run at the national title this year. But hey, YOU REPRESENT THOSE 18%ERS OUT THERE! Do it proud!
March 26, 201313 yr I think the 18 percenters would be calling for Cals head. But you give valid points. Honestly I don't care what other people think of UK as long as they win championships every few years.

Nix was the 69th ranked kid in his class, bet Izzo would have rather had Cousins, Favors, Gallon, Oriakhi or even Aaric Murray at LaSalle (all ranked ahead of him)...Izzo didn't recruit him to develop him, he was the best MSU could get at the time. It's great to see players develop, but let's not act like we wouldn't all rather have a player ready to play than a development project. I love to see players grow and improve; Darius, Nazr and Jorts to name a few. But let's keep it in perspective.
March 27, 201313 yr Cal's best teams will have a mix of everything. The old guy, the veterans, and the freshmen; see 2012 team. This year was basically all freshmen, with it being both Mays's and Harrow's first year in the program. Wiltjer was the ONLY guy back with any game experience, I'm not counting Polson's garbage minutes. It was a mess. Cal's first year he had Liggins and Miller both as Sophomores and Patterson in his Junior season; so on and so forth. It's a great concept to get the best of the best every year, but the writing is on the wall that it helps DRAMATICALLY when you have a few guys hang around for two or three years. We all thought this year's team was full of guys "ready to go" and it didn't work out. Veterans bring leadership and team chemistry, this years team had none of the above.
March 27, 201313 yr They needed much more than a PG this year, much much more. A shooting guard that can shoot helps as well.
March 27, 201313 yr People see the university as being a one-year NBA prep stop, instead of being a place where you get an education and play basketball. No sense of history behind the program; just a me-first attitude with the ultimate goal of getting paid and winning championships is secondary. After helping their teams win titles how long did it take Durant or Carmelo Anthony to come back and finish their degrees?

March 27, 201313 yr Also, college athletics today are for the coach not the school. So I'd say 90% of every college roster goes there for the coach not the school. If Pitino wasn't at UL but at some other school his whole roster would be there not UL, coach K would be the same way, etc. So don't be ignorant and say people perceive UK is bad because players only come for the coach where at every other school it's the same way. Just at UK they get the best of those players. It's being at Kentucky that gives players an extra little bonus for going there, same with UL, Duke, UNC, etc. The only reason people perceive UK "that" way is because they win

I'm not being ignorant, I'm simply telling you what those around me, who have no rooting interest in UK, think of the program. Wasn't that the entire topic behind the threat? Why do people constantly criticize the one-and-done method used by Cal? Maybe I missed something? You are in the "inside" trying to tell me what people on the "outside" think? That's funny.
March 27, 201313 yr His skill set wasn't/isn't as good as Millers was but I'd say Polson certainly grew quite a bit at UK. His growth has since come to a complete halt with next year's class coming in.
March 27, 201313 yr After helping their teams win titles how long did it take Durant or Carmelo Anthony to come back and finish their degrees? I don't know, they don't show that stuff on sportscenter and I honestly don't care enough to keep up with it. Do you know the answer without looking? I honestly would be interested to know. I remember seeing Vince Carter graduate at UNC a couple years after he left early for the NBA, but that stuff doesn't really make the national news anymore.

How many does Louisville have in that same amount of time?
