Louisville Magic

Featured Replies

As long as Ellis Myles is running the Louisville Magic, the Kentucky Travelers will be the more classy and top notch program. I would send my kid to the coaches with the Travelers before I sent him to Ellis. The only name that draws more ire and controversy in Louisville is Bender.

Ellis Myles is Rick Pitino lite. I know his coaching style is controversial but the Magic program has grown each of the last two years so he must be doing something right.

So it's possible to be a classy AAU program when everyone involved is self serving? Interesting perspective.

Maybe that's why Pitino let Ellis go.

Could be. Hard to have the egos of two head coaches on one team. I think it is safe to say that Myles has a decently sized ego.

I'd let my kid play for him. If there is a problem then we'd move on.

Oh this is gettin' good :) In all seriousness, both of these teams are very very good. While the Travelers will not participate in the State tourney, which yes is a way for them to be assured they'd meet, I know the Travelers have a full schedule so maybe it's a conflict, maybe not, but it does not appear that they are ducking anyone, nor vice versa. I have seen nearly all of these players play, in fact I've seen several of them develop since the 3rd grade, and all of them have turned out to be very good players.

Let the players play and if they meet it will be a great game I am sure. Seems like some adults are letting the egos get the best of them when it should just be about some of the top players in the country getting better and bringing out the best of one another. I know several of them personally and of those none of them have any ill will towards the other and in fact it brings out the best of them when they play one another. Definitely the two best teams in the State if not the country, much respect to all the players.

I believe Bach is from Augusta isn't he?

Bach will benefit the most playing on that team. He will get to play against athletes he doesn't see in practice or much in the region.

Could someone provide more info on Bach and Rentfroe?

I've heard of most of the other names, but these were two I weren't really familiar with.

Schools, Height/Weight, Position, College Options, etc.

Bach is a scoring machine who plays the 2 guard I believe. He is the real deal from what I have heard.

Q is accurate in saying Bach is a scoring machine. Plays the 1 & the 2.

He's about 6'0 & will be a senior in 2013-14. Not sure on weight, but he's rail-thin. He compensates for his lack of strength with a tremendous degree of athleticism & leaping ability. Leaping ability makes him a very good rebounder for someone with his size & lack of bulk. Has a really good basketball IQ & scores in a variety of ways--penetration, perimeter shooting & free throws. Also has a knack for getting into passing lanes & getting steals that result in fastbreak layups.

As far as college choices go, I can only tell you what I was told in January. On the D-1 level: NKU, EKU, Tennessee, Belmont, High Point, Butler, & Furman have all shown interest. Xavier was in attendance for Augusta's game at Harrison County in mid-January. Too many schools at the D-2 level to list.

Many would agree he was the second top player in the 10th Region this past season, behind Omar Prewitt. Should be the pre-season favorite for Player of the Year in 2013-14.

Thanks Randy, we appreciate the analysis. We're hopeful that Brent gets maximum exposure from his affiliation with the Magic. It's a very useful tool (AAU Circuit) to overcoming the single drawback such a small school like Augusta has; exposure and notoriety. I'm happy to say we have been blessed with the best of both worlds.

He'll definitely get maximum exposure with the Magic. Are they playing in the Adidas Invitational again this year?

I will take the Magic over the travelers. Those kids are tough would certainly not back down.

The Travelers look better on paper but I'd take the Magic to win also.

Here you go....

Magic will still be strong......Christen Cunningham, Quentin Snider, Jordan Green, Trey Grundy, Shane Hall, Craig Owens, Brent Bach, Austin Rentfroe, and Lamontrey Harris.

Real strong it appears. I like Halls game, and Grundy.

...and sometimes his perimeter shooting, depending on what town he's playing in, is from a favorite landmark of Randy Parker's. :lol2:
