Yes. Females in particular.

Interesting. I have never met a gay person who just "decided" to be gay.

Females have told me (and others) that they found females to be more what they were looking for than the males they had previously dated or been married to. One even went so far as to say, "If he understood me like she does, we'd still be married."

If you want to change people calling them dumb and homophobes just puts them on the defensive. Some people have religious convictions which I respect as I respect your orientation. But I stand by the fact name calling makes the debate petty.

I whole hearted agree with you that forcing ideas on people is ill-effective. Ignorance and ill-informed means lack of knowledge, therefore I don't see that as name calling, as I am just stating their ignorance as just what it is... "Ignorance". I would say that typically I'm one that is open minded enough to hear people out on various topics, as there's no doubt that I'm not the authority on everything, and there's certainly room for me to learn a thing or two about whatever.

If you detect a certain amount of frustration in me, you are not imagining things. A lifetime of wondering when people will finally understand can make one a bit testy and impatient.

On the topic of homosexuality however, I just can't help myself to think that there's no more room for debate. I've heard every side of people's thoughts about it my entire life, and I've concluded that they either understand or they don't. It's not a case of gays being right or wrong, it's a case of people either getting it or not getting it. If it were a case of gays being right or wrong, then I could see room for debate, but it's not, so there's not. I am thrilled however to see that little by little the general public is finally starting to come around.

If I were a science teacher, teaching that water freezes at 32 degrees fahrenheit and a student of mine insisted that it was 37 and that there was room to debate that, I wouldn't exactly call him ignorant, but there'd come a point where I'd have to put an end to the discussion and say that I'm sorry that you won't see it, but it is indeed 32 degrees fahrenheit and that's just a fact.

Science doesn't seem to be willing to silence the debate with the facts that every gay in their heart knows to be true. "That's just the way they are". The topic can get muddy if you include straight people who've experimented outside of their own normalcy, but those are not the folks that I am talking about here. I'm talking about those who've known since perhaps as far back as adolescence that their attraction, unchosen by themselves, is for the same sex. Knowing what an un-accepting world this is in general about it, I guarantee that an extremely high percentage of those adolescents wish that they weren't. That's only because of the difficulty that they undoubtedly fear about how they're going to live in such an un-accepting world. Wishing they weren't gay was never a remedy though because in the cases of these types of people that I'm talking about, if they're gay.... they're just gay... not much you can do about it but accept it .

I'll admit that this is the first time that I've been so adamant about this topic in such a very long time. I concluded years ago that I'm just going to live my life as I see fit, and that I can't be setting everyones' alarm clocks, as I've got my own alarm clock to set, and that if my happiness depends on when the world finally wakes up, then I'll die trying to be happy.

My question to those who are anti-gay or anti-gay marriage. If science were to convince you that homosexuality is as just a normal part of nature as anything, and not something abnormal or immoral that you've been taught by your family, society, or religion... then what then would be your issue about it? I'm here to tell you that it is a normal part of nature, so if you believe me then you can start scratching your issues off of your list.

I'd also like to address the issue of promiscuity amongst some homosexuals. For starters... if you're talking about men, this should not be too hard to understand as men themselves are probably by nature the more promiscuous gender. However, I contend that if the general public would start to embrace more the loving union of people who are gay, then you'd have less promiscuity, less look of an immoral or deviant lifestyle, less gay men hiding in straight marriages, and less gay men hiding behind a priest's collar.

I for one have a close understanding about why there are so many gay priests (and I'm not referring to pedophiles as that's a different topic), but when I was about 11 years old a priest came into my Catholic grade school and was talking to us about vocations, and how some people are called to be married, and some single, and some are called to the holy orders. I raised my hand and asked him how do you know if God is calling you to holy orders, and his answer was that if God is giving you the calling... you will just know. In a way that only my 11 year old trusting mind could comprehend, was that I must've been called to be a priest because I certainly knew that I wasn't being called to be in a straight marriage. I don't regret not following through with that, but I now can see where there must've been many just like me who took that as literal and followed through for either reasons of saving face with their families, or truly believed within their Catholic faith that they were truly being called. Some entered the priesthood as young adults without the knowledge that they weren't going to have as much control over their own hormones as they had expected that they would. What a little mess they created for themselves, as lay people in the church hold their priests to such high standards of celibacy, and when they come to find that their priest is in fact human, they are shocked and appalled. Just a little bit of delusion served up by everyone it seems. If we could all just face a little bit of reality, then a lot of these unnecessary problems of people living double lives and/or living a lie could lesson by leaps and bounds.

Again... I'm just pleading for the world to GET REAL...

Oh well, I obviously have a lot of thoughts on the topic and perhaps maybe more than many of you care to hear...

Hopefully I wake tomorrow obsessing over something completely different. There's no doubt that i've dwelled on this topic enough for one day... and honestly after so many years of it, it truly bores me.

Well, there's a debate to be had here ....but my Cards are playing in the NCAA, and I ain't got time for it right now like Cats fans. :D I'll get back to you, though. :p

I know a LOT of gay people. Not one of them made any more conscious of a choice than I did as a straight person. And considering what they have gone through, no one would make that choice capriciously.

Pedaphiles say the same thing. They claim to be born with their attractions. Why would any one choose to be attracted to little children? Where does it end?

Yes.

Saying it is "not a choice" is pure conjecture as well, correct?

For the most part.

If you made me lean one way or the other I'd say you're born with something that makes you lean that way.

And I know some folks who would say just the opposite.

I can't say I know anyone who said "let me give this a shot and see if I like it."

Yes. Females in particular.

Doesn't count. Those girls are experimenting and trying to be fashionable and trendy. Watch way too much TV. They're not gay. They love attention.

For the most part.

As Khalid said...pedophiles say the same thing...doesn't make it right. To me homosexuality is just weird. I say love the person, but don't love the act.

Sure it's weird to you as well as to me. It's weird to "them" when they see opposite sex sexual acts.

What's wrong with "the act?"

Yes. Females in particular.

So....I have a hard time with the mental pic of a woman discussing her sexuality with a 7 year old boy....which is the image I have of you...it's really disturbing...in a Quentin Tarantino movie kind of way.

Except to get your jollies off I just don't get the point especially with dudes. (Yes I'll wait for the chorus of boos from you and rockmom.)

I don't follow. The point of what?
