The coaching box is CLEARLY marked on the Rupp floor. It goes from the front of the bench to only about half way down the bench. How in the heck is a coach not allowed to roam from at least one end of the bench to the other. Twice last night the coach from Knott was motioned back in his from the baseline ref.

 

Is this rule enforced at any other time of the season? To my knowledge it is not in the 10th and 11th.

 

IMO... Dumb rule.

It is only 14 feet in high school. It doesn't cover the entire bench area for any high school in any gym in the state.

I know of 3 times Coach was told to come back toward the center of the bench away from the baseline this year. And once the assistants was asked to keep an eye on Coach and help keep him in the box.

He did get 1 technical this year for being outside the box. That one he was knelt down in front of where I sit at the scorers table with his arm leaning on the table. And for those that don't know, I sit right beside Coach spotting for our stats.

I've seen it where the official will warn the coach, but I can't recall any coach getting T'd up over it.

Happy was outside the box at Scott County, more than he was inside the box but the stripes weren't going to give the Legion a "T" there at least! :lol2:

I agree either you call it consistently all year long, or you don't call it!

 

If there are complaints that I have with stripes in general it's being inconsistent during a game and how each Region/Association interpreters rules such as traveling/walking and hand checking to name a few.

 

I mean the rule book is the same but each calls it differently. If the book is the same, why are the calls made so much differently from area to area and from game to game?

 

Oh and please......don't say what I have posted isn't true! Each Region/Association calls the games so much differently, that you would think each uses a different rule book!

 

The KHSAA needs to step-up and enforce the rules as written in the book and stop letting each stripe association call the games the way they feel it needs to be called!

 

It shouldn't matter if you play in the Ninth, First, Sixth or Tenth Regions, calls should be consistent and enforced the same way throughout the Commonwealth!

Oh and if you think I am wrong, then I will use an example of the Charge/Block calls in the Ninth Region Tourney. Nine out of ten times, the Ninth Stripes will call a Block on the same play that the Sixteen Stripes called a charge! Same rule book, same type of play, different interpretation from different Regon Stripes!

The BBA enforces this rule in every game. However, if coaches are coaching, they let them be. If you're yelling at an official outside of your box, better get comfortable.

Agreed. I think that's the stance very official takes. You get latitude until you get attitude.
