Ashland 74 Boyd Co. 58

Good point, RedBlood. You do not enhance your stature by degrading your opposition. In fact, although you may get "high fives" at the work place and at the service club and/or booster club meeting, your effect on the general public is the opposite. To cite a much used saying, the result is that many fans have two favorites- their school and whoever is playing Ashland. That really is unfortunate.

In that venue, I don't believe a Christian school or any private school should be held to any higher standard than that expected of other schools.

I have read this site for awhile now but had to join today because I totally disagree with this statement.

Let me first state that I don't believe anyone from Rose Hill would tape a game that would clearly go against the rules. I believe that this is some sort of mix-up and all of the information is not being made available. If someone from Rose Hill did do this, then shame on them. There would be no excuse for doing this.

I believe that as a Christian school, Rose Hill should be the shining example of sportsmanship, integrity, and honor. We are to be the example to the "rest of the world". The majority of people at Rose Hill have all of these qualities. It is very unfortunate that the words and actions of a few seem to "taint" the whole school.

Tiny: I would like to say to you that you need to continue supporting Owens as you have been. Yes, he certainly has to correct his "attitude" and learn to play "team" ball. I don't believe he has ever played high school basketball and he needs time to learn and adjust. The first step is admitting that he needs to change and he did this with the UMass coaches. Great start Antonio. I have watched him play in Lexington in :th taught the game of "team ball". He was always that much better than other players that he just had "free will" in the games. Antonio, I wish the best for you. Understand the sky is the limit for you.

Thanks :thumb: Alot people just dont understand kids. But I will say

this when its all said and done, people will remember Owens and the

Boyd County lions. :sssh:

If true? Then it would serve Owens right! Basketball is a team sport and the team comes first. One player can't act in his own best interest and expect the team to do well. This same thing happened at Morgan early in the game! Except that Owens settled down and the team started playing better later in the game. If Boyd can solve their internal issues with the players' attitudes and as a team, then they have the potential to win the region. Otherwise, they won't last long in Morehead, if they even get there.

Its not, read all the post.

Your post in your third paragraph , 70 X 7, is noble and idealistic. However, it is not very realistic. Nonetheless, I appreciate your thoughts. Your moniker, 70 X 7 is good. However, if you deal with the give and take of athletics at any level, you will soon learn that 490 bruised cheeks can be fatal.

Please remember, as with most who post, I am merely a fan and not a representative of Rose Hill or of any other school. In other words, my words are mine and don't necessarily represent those of anyone else. I do join in welcoming you to BGP and wish you well. You will enjoy the give and take but only if you give as well as take.

Some of you need to take a minute and review the rules page -- specifically, Rule #4: No school-specific recruiting comments or allegations of KHSAA rules violations by any school, coach, or player are allowed. No talking about where any player lives, has lived, or where they are from in a recruiting context. This is not the place to report KHSAA violations. Feel free to contact http://www.khsaa.org to report such violations, but do not discuss violations here.

No more taping comments!

Frances, my friend and antagonist, I must respond to a couple of your posts.

First, I don't remember stating that the word "Christian" in a school's name means that it should be held to a "very high standard". If I did so somewhere along the line, I retract the statement.

Scooterbob - If I have attributed another's quote to you, I apologize. Nonetheless, any school that breaks the rules should be held accountable. Again, I stated that I had no knowledge of what transpired. I merely stated that IF it had occurred, it should not have.

As to Birdsfan's post, I will refrain from further comment.

Frances

It was great to see Wilcox and Williams contribute as they did in this game.

For my money, Wilcox can have a huge impact on how far Ashland goes in the tournaments. When he is shooting (and hitting), he really opens up a lot of things for Ashland.

Williams does the same thing, but he is also important underneath.

When Cannoy is on, the Tomcats look like a completely different team.

Frances

No apology necessary, Frances. As I think back, I may well have made the statement at one time or the other. I am not suggesting that Christian school advocates, be they Protestant or be they Catholic, should abandon their beliefs and good intentions to lead by example. I am merely suggesting that you get nowhere and you lead no one if you lay down and let others continually run over you.

I also agree that, whenever a rule is broken, it needs to be investigated. However, if wrongful acts cannot be directly traced to the enabling acts of a particular school, it should obvious that

you can't blame and punish the school. For example, if an Ashland Booster runs a red light and injures Boyd County basketball player, I don't think we can blame your basketball coach- unless, of course, he is driving the car.

I appreciate the opportunity to further explain my above post which, most likely, offended our new friend, 70 X 7. Actually, he/she and I probably sing from, at least, similar hymnals even though we probably have some differences of opinion.

I agree that as a balanced team – with everyone contributing, they look much, much better. This was an important win for the team's confidence. If they can keep playing like this they could make an impact in the tournaments.

I just don't think anyone is a lock coming out of the 64th. In my mind, Fairview probably has the edge, and Ashland and BC are both tossups. Rose Hill is probably still at least one season away (maybe two).

The ironic thing is, whoever comes out of the 64th is right back in the same situation at the Regional level - no one is a lock there, either.

What a year for basketball.

By the way, Graybeard - I couldn't help but notice that you trimmed your beard the other day, but it's now back to full length. Are you using extensions in that beard?

You know, Painter would never do that - he's such a handsome man.

Frances

One thing I noticed about the game was #3 for BC. I think his name is Branham, he played really tough D on Matt Thomas. He was relentless the whole night, I was pretty impressed. I dont think he did much offensively, but his D was top notch.

I would consider this as another statement from you showing your true HATRED towards a young man that is trying to adjust his life and live up to everyones standards. Give the KID a break, no one is denying that he has a problem. JUST GETTING TIRED OF YOUR BOLD AND HARSH HATRED towards a young man that is in the spotlight game after game.....How would we function under that pressure???? Dont say that you havent made numerous comments, and I know you probably still think he could be great too....Give us a break!

By the way, every team in the 16th Region has a ball-hog, one team has 2, but Owens is of course the only one ever mentioned.

I will still say we love Owens at Boyd, support Owens at Boyd and will continue to cheer the young man on, hoping that he gets his LIFE in order and has a great college career....

Everyone else can just be haters.....

But come Sweet 16 time, might be spectators! :thumb:

First off, I said "IF TRUE", it would serve him right! And if it is true it would. I would say this to my own son if that were the facts. But that doesn't mean that I am an "Owens hater" as you state! I have never expressed any hatred toward Owens. In fact, I LIKE OWENS VERY MUCH! He is a good kid from what I know, and without him Boyd wouldn't be a top contender in the region. So I don't know where you misunderstand my comments?? Owens is the best player in the 16th Region!! I have said that in other posts!! So don't accuse me of being an Owens hater because that is very far from the truth!

I have made critical comments about Boyd's players and team attitude because they do have some internal problems that need to be dealth with. These comments have been made to point out that the problems exist and in hopes that it may help someone reading to make an effort to solve them if they are in a position to do so. I have been supportive of Boyd on my posts as well. So don't accuse me of being an Owens hater. That is the farthest thing from the truth!
