The server mentioning the info is not what bothers me about this. What bothers me is the price for milk.

 

 

I have a problem with both issues because I think they are related. Any waiter/waitress should know the menu inside and out and they should be smart enough to know when their employer is getting over on the customers and the individual employee needs to find a way to let the customers know in a professional manner. And if the employer says no can do, find another job.

I am sure there are a bunch of people on the cheap however I really don't care what they think, if customers were specific with their complaint and didn't tip the server she would rethink her approach.

 

Again, in case anyone didn't get it the first time, I don't care what they think of me. If they want to rationalize stupidity that is their tissue.

 

If you don't care what anyone thinks of you then why not just tell a manager? I'm sure every server has heard a thousand reasons why they aren't getting a tip, from the people who intentionally drop their plates/drinks when the server hands it to them, to the people who say their food was wrong/bad after eating all of it, to the people looking to nitpick, to people with genuine issues. Your reason is going to get lost in the noise of the complaints from "those people."

I have zero problem telling the manager too. The only thing I don't like about that is what I mentioned above. Then they get condescending and remove the charge for you and give you the look. I don't want that.

 

I will say this, telling the manager and not tipping will get more attention to the problem than doing just one or the other.

And I just want you to know that never ever in a million years would I reach for a reason not to tip. In fact, I enjoy being able to give someone a very large tip because of a job well done, it makes my day better.

That is the other issue to me. It is not like you came in with a couple of tubs of goo for the all you can eat $20 special, drank water, and ate $300 worth the ribs and then complained about something. You spent a small fortune and got hosed.

I am curious why stuff like that is marked up so much. Nothing like getting a thimble of orange juice with breakfast.

Went to Montgomery Inn for my daughter's birthday back in January. My son, being 3, usually always gets white milk with his meals unless he just wants water. We ordered him a white milk with his meal. They brought out a small cup with about 6 to 8 ounces of milk in it. The waitress comes back a couple times during our meal to check on us. As we're about halfway through our meal, she asks if he's ready for a refill, and we say sure. She refills his cup, and we think nothing of it. Our bill comes at the end, $6 for his milk. I don't recall it saying no refills anywhere on the menu, but every restaurant that we've been to where milk doesn't have free refills, the server has always informed us prior to even asking us if we're interested in another. Regardless, $3 for 6 ounces of milk is a pure ripoff. My son drank about 10 ounces of milk for $6. Beers were cheaper than milk.

 

The place is WAY over-rated!!!

I'd still tip, but I'd communicate my displeasure to someone. You can get 2 gallons of milk for $6.

Back in the day we didn't have near as many restaurant choices as we have today. I think we were programmed to think Montgomery Inn was all that and a bag of chips. It is solid but with all the choices today there are much better places to each that cost a lot less.

Speaking of that I need a WIC card, that is where the real Kroger savings are at!
