64th District Draw Results

Featured Replies

From these post all I can think of is that the KHSAA should oversee the whole show and make "all the districts seed".

The banner in the either Ashland or RH gym should read

2006 64th District runnerup, "because we got a lucky draw".

Just doesn't have a great ring to it, does it? :D

Well, after Ashland just beat Boyd last night, I'd say this is no longer necessarily true. Had Boyd beaten Ashland again, and shown dominance, I would have agreed. Since Ashland won (and it's not like they "squeeked by"), I don't see the outcome of the District as a lock for anyone. Come to think of it, I never really did.

How come now that Lawrence is out of the 64th they draw instead of seeding?

Whenever a new team enters a district, the constituent schools vote on the format (seed or draw). This year, with Fairview being in the 64th, the schools voted, and the vote came out 2-2. Boyd and Ashland voted to seed, Fairview and Rose Hill voted to draw. Just as you would expect all four schools to vote.

Going with the draw gives the smaller schools a better chance at advancing (over time). As always, drawing is a two edged sword. In the future, there will be years when the two best teams draw each other, and years when the draw works out just as if it had been seeded. This season, I'm sure that Fairview would much rather have seeded, but they looked at the long term picture and stayed with the draw. Over the next few seasons, Rose Hill would probably benefit from seeding, but they also chose to look at it in the long term.

As is often the case, Frances has covered the issue well.

I thought there was a possibility for this tourney to be held at Raceland in "The Palace"?

Do the Ashland people wish not to discuss this? Why would the Tomcats prefer to play at Boyd rather than Raceland?

Again, why would the 64th distict want to play on a non-district site? It makes no sense to me.

Looks like Fairview voting for the draw could very well keep them from going to Morehead with one of the best teams they have had in years. They better hope that they beat Boyd, which won't be an easy task at Boyd.

Good break for Ashland and RH, although it would seem to favor Ashland more!

Why would Fairview want to play Boyd Co. on their home floor?

It's obvious, Raceland is a neutral floor. Since Rose Hill had the tourney taken from their arena, why should they or anyone else be put in the position to play a team on their home floor? Is Boyd Co. going to give their turn to Ashland next time the tourney is Boyd's to run?

Basically every year Rose Hill and Fairview will be faced with playing somebody on their home floor. That is inherently wrong.

Ashland and their fans enjoy eating popcorn and drinking pop during the ballgame. :D:p

I figured it was something major as to why they wouldnt want to play it there. Thanks for clearing it up. I knew it wasnt selfishness and greed.

In all seriousness was Raceland truly discussed? Had the AD's from any of the four schools contacted Raceland to see if "The Palace" would have been available to them?

The Palace was made available and it was seriously discussed. My sources say Ashland had all their ducks in a row to force it to Boyd.
