I guess I am lost in this point....Why would we even want to take our district tournament to another District???? How is this being selfish and greedy????

 

First of all one point made, was Fairview didnt like the decision. No disrespect to Fairview but this is their FIRST year in the district, Boyd and Ashland should have a Major decision in this, they have been in this District for a LONG time.

 

I believe this was the best decision that could have been made, best arrangements all the way around for the District.

Ashland and their fans enjoy eating popcorn and drinking pop during the ballgame.

Why would Fairview want to play Boyd Co. on their home floor?

 

It's obvious, Raceland is a neutral floor. Since Rose Hill had the tourney taken from their arena, why should they or anyone else be put in the position to play a team on their home floor? Is Boyd Co. going to give their turn to Ashland next time the tourney is Boyd's to run?

 

Basically every year Rose Hill and Fairview will be faced with playing somebody on their home floor. That is inherently wrong.

 

I'm not exactly certain about this, but I believe that the KHSAA rules state that the tournament should be moved to the largest gym "in the district" in this situation (host school's gym not large enough to handle the expected crowd, based on prior five year average).

 

If I were Boyd's AD, and we were talking about moving the site for the district tourny, I would definitely want to keep it at the largest gym inside the district - it would effectively be a home game. He would have to be brain dead to vote any other way. As for the other three schools (Ashland, Rose Hill, Fairview), they each had a vote, so where is the complaint?

Do the Ashland people wish not to discuss this? Why would the Tomcats prefer to play at Boyd rather than Raceland?

 

They did not want to play at Raceland because that would have involved paying to "rent" the building. Why would anyone in the 64th district want to play their games in Raceland, and pay money to do so, when BC is closer and free....

Even though you guys won there the other night, I would think, that if you had drawn them 1st round you might not wanted the site to be there. Kind of an easy to decision to make after the fact though.

Here is the straight answer about the location decision.

 

Raceland was considered. The KHSAA informed the delegates that the tournament could be moved to any gym that would support the crowd. The tournament manager then asked both Fairview and Ashland if they had any problem with the tournament being held at Summit. Both wanted to keep it in the district. If either had objected Rose Hill made it very clear that they were willing to pay the rent and move it to Raceland. This was offered in an attempt to be fair to all involved.

 

Here's the bottom line. Rose Hill offered from the beginning to move the championship. Rose Hill felt and still feels that their kids deserved the right to play their first round game on their home floor but a unanimous vote is required and it didn't happen.

The whole fact of the matter is that with the district being as competetive as it is this year, the schools are looking for a maximum attendace, and BCs gym is the one that can most accommodate the crowds. And if each teams supporters show up in mass, like everyone is expecting, there shouldn't be a home court advantage.

I think this post is a perfect example of a district tournament being seeded! If Ashland and Rose Hill are the #3 & #4 teams, then Fairview and Boyd "DESERVE" to be playing a "lesser" team and the two best teams advance to the region tournament. If you want a Cinderella story then let's see if Ashland or Rose Hill could pull off an upset (in game 1 or 2 of the district tournament) and become the underdogs everyone will pull for.

I agree. I like the seeded tournaments. But it does give the smaller schools a better chance to compete. History has shown that a blind draw will benefit smaller schools like Rose Hill and Fairview, because they are usually not as strong as Ashland or BC.

even this year will be a struggle for both to survive and advance. the view will give boyd all they want and the boys at the hill will put enough points on the board to make ashland sweat.

lets play what if: owens goes nuts and quits or gets kicked off. it could happen he doesnt guard anyone and if i were moore and blanton i wouldnt put up with doing all of the dirty work and not getting any shots!

what if ashland has a bad shooting night. its MOST certainly has happened this year. the hill has not been blown out of any game and has shown there best offensive displays against the better teams. they will put at least 60 points up on the board if they rebound that would be enough to win on a given night.

 

remember the districts arent a series. both teams just have to be better on ONE night.

 

how much of a crowd would would that bring in. maybe not as much as ashland boyd but the buzz around the region would be heard around the state.

Since we are playing "what if"...What if the district host was Ashland this year and they had to play at Summit and what if they drew Boyd...

No. Ashland's gym can hold almost 2,000 people, that would mean that the average attendance for the championship game over the next 5 years would have to be more than 2,000 and that is basically impossible since the only gym in the district that can hold more than 2,000 people is BC. So there is really no way to get an average of more than 2,000.

Tournaments should be seeded, just look at the NCAA conf & the field of 64 are all seeded. This should be done in district play also, but the district teams should also be forced to play each other twice during the regular season in order to get a fair seeding. This could eliminate the possibility of one of the 2 weakest teams going on to represent the district in regionals if the 2 weakest happen to draw each other.
