February 26, 201313 yr According to Jeff Van Gundy on Sunday Steve Nash is the best shooter in NBA history. It took me by surprise when he said it. I do not think he is as far off base as many believe him to be though.

February 26, 201313 yr Author What kinda stats are we talking? What was his reasoning? Not sure. In looking at it Nash has the 8th highest 3 point percentage of all time. With the exception of Steph Curry at #3 (which he has a small sample size), the other guys are/were role type players whose specific job was to drain 3 pointers. Drazen Petrovic was the other name ahead of him but he really only took off in to a starter his last two seasons. Actually most of the guys on the list are role type players. #2 just behind Mark Price for best FT% ever.
February 26, 201313 yr Possibly. Lots of guys I'd rather have shoot at the end of games though. Can't go wrong with Bird. Reggie Miller was the best big shot maker I've seen. Ray Allen is deadly. Steph Curry's jumper is very smooth.

February 26, 201313 yr Author No, sure did not. Go check out Chris Palmer's tweets on the subject. Here are a couple. Larry Bird is the most overrated shooter of all time. chris palmerVerified account @ESPNChrisPalmer Larry Bird's 3FG% first 5 years: 40, 27, 21, 28, 24. (Marksman.)
February 27, 201313 yr Five names come to mind Steve Nash, Ray Allen, Mark Price, Reggie Miller, and Chris Mullin.
February 27, 201313 yr I will throw out Steve Kerr if we are talking merely shooters. Didn't he have the best 3 point percentage when he retired? He might still. Granted I know that he didn't create his shot, I still think he needs to be in mentioned at least.
February 27, 201313 yr Only five players have ever posted 50-40-90 in a season. Nash has done it five times and is on pace for a sixth. Bird did it twice, Price, Miller and Dirk all have done it once.

I am not speaking for Van Gundy, but I think he probably meant traditional players that started and not specialists. At least that is what I was getting at in the thread.
