Please do not compare this team to the Tyler Jones and Dustin Pluckett team that is absolutely crazy talk!!!

I researched rosters and was wondering how Hicks and whatever 5ft.10 4 man this squad would use to match up Combs and Bounds.

I as a parent who has had a son play for the last three head coaches at Grant County feel I can say this with a little bit of credibility behind it. I can not speak for the 2002-2003 team, I was not there but I have heard the history and know for sure that those players are compared to some of the best ever to play for the braves, being compared to the guys that last won the region at Grant. Now to the near present and present. My oldest son played for Coach Kinmon on the 08-09 team and had a tremendous experience, they played very well and I have a ton of respect for coach Kinmon and how he ran his program. That team was pretty fun to watch. He had to go through coach Kinmon leaving and it broke his heart. Now the fortuante thing for me was he played against coach Hicks before coming to live with me when he played in the 16th at Rose Hill with Euton and Jackson. Then he played for coach Utter while he was the intrim coach along with my other son who was a freshman in 2010 season. Coach Utter did a fine job with the situation they put him in, a position that was unfair at best, I believe he did the best he could given the situation and probably hurt him come interview time for a head coach. Then the freshman played for coach Hicks with Aglin and Xavier Thomas, and will tell you with out a shadow of a doubt he loved every minute of it and loved coach Hicks and his style of coaching. Like I said I knew Hicks and had watched him coach in the 16th and knew what we were getting at Grant, an in your face, passionate, no non-sense coach who pushed his players to the best of their abilities. When he came in I had not seen a coach that pushed fundamentals and in your face defense like that in a long time, he had his players playing hard and over the past 3 years has done a lot with not what basketball people would call basketball players, no size inside, etc. I have heard it all but they won this year some how, great JOB coaches and team and played great against the teams they should beat and competed against all the others. I will not compare who the best of all time is but I know a lot of great players have played there since 2005 and all have worked hard and they all deserve the respect for sticking with it and puttting in work everyday. I know Carr is fun to watch and not a day goes by that you wont find the kid in the gym or in the driveway shooting, or working on his game. I think he is a great kid and I wish him the best and hope that Grant comes out and destroys the region next year, they fell a little short but if they had a couple of players no longer at the school I think it would have been great to watch every game which I did not. I will say that Kinmon and Hicks both get on officials and argue calls and BOTH coach the heck out of their players and are both prefessional and were great to work with, I never had a problem with them as a football guy. They were always supportive and I appreciate the relationship I have with them both but more imprtantly than anything they both have helped shape my SONS into the men they are today and for that I am grateful. I wish Coach Hicks the best and would love to see Coach Kinmon back on the sidelines someday. I wish the Braves the best of luck next year and be proud of your season, you did well. I am not asking for debatem just wanted to voice my opinion. Thanks

Exactly they wouldn't have a chance and no one on that team could guard Jones or Pluckett. I know Anglin plays great D but he has never guarded that type of talent.

Good points on all 3 coaches. Coach Kinmon was a great guy and a great coach that made a BIG mistake that hopefully does not ruin the memories people have for him. Coach Utter is plain and simple a hard working guy that takes no sides, gives everyone 100% but is not the head coaching type. Coach Utter did the best job he could have with the time he was given and he did deserve a chance at the head coaching spot. Coach Hicks is easily the best practice coach Grant has ever had but sometimes he seems to struggle during games. He plays the hard ball games but DOES play favorites! Hicks knows the game inside and out and the Braves will be a STRONG team next year but they need to play a HARD early season schedule and then an easier one as tournament time rolls around.

What makes you such an authority on the Coaches or what evidence do you have to support your accusations?

Sounds like you have an axe to grind with coach Hicks.

DOES play favorites! .

Eh'Hem ?

BGCAT you seem quite sensitive about coach Hicks and the fact that a lot of people seem to think he plays favorites, that's the consensus up around the 9th region and the schools he has coached at before, but everyone has a favorite.

I am quite sensitive to the fact! It's just not fair to pass judgement on someone or accuse someone of something unless you see it! Whether it be Coach Hicks , Coach Utter or Coach Kinmon. Every kid gets the same opportunity at GC period, What they do with it is up to them. He is just as critical of his better players as he is of his freshmen. So to say he plays favorites is totally out of line unless you know 100% that he does! Everyone wants to blame the coach for playing when little Johnny isn't getting the minutes that the parents want him to get. So tell them to work harder and then they may fall under the coach's favor!

Is it safe to assume that the Braves will be ranked #1 in the region to start the 2013-2014 season? Most of the other top teams get hit hard by graduation...

I think that this would be safe to assume... but who knows.

As much as it pains me to say it but I agree with you! LOL!

From what I've heard if Grants bigger kids improve at all they will have a great chance at going to Rupp, but that's on paper the same way it was for Collins this year.

I have NO authority on the Coaches but I do have a set of eyes that can see at 20/20 vision from the stands and can see that Coach Hicks does play favorites (Which is my opinion of course lol). I do not fault Coach Hicks for playing favorites because as a Coach of kids at any level you are going to have favorite players whether you like it or not! To say I have a "axe on the grind with Coach Hicks" is wrong but you can not sit there and say that Coach Hicks has not done a few kids wrong since he came to Grant County, I mean look at Grants numbers.....You are right about one thing and that is, When "Little Johnny" is not getting the playing time that the parents should not just assume "Little Johnny" is being mistreated but that he does not have the talent to play at that moment and "Little Johnny" needs to work harder.

But YOU also need to realize you play for the NAME on the FRONT of the jersey not for the name on the back!! And no matter how good Your son is He can not and will not be able to carry the TEAM by himself no matter if he does have HALF the teams points in the Championship game GRANT COUNTY still lost to SK. Its all about the RINGS (or in this case the trophies lol )
