Folks, I said maybe, might, and probably. I also said you could come up with two players that might be better than Carr. I've spoken to some people in the county and some people think Carr is better than Jones. And some think Jones was better than Carr. And some think Shaeffer was better than all of them. I never said "obviously" or "definitely." This team might be the best.

Again, 9 points away from Rupp Arena in 2003 is hard to argue with.

I didn't mean any disrespect to Coach Hicks or this years team. I just think some people have tried to make it sound like Grant Co was horrible and in shambles when Hicks got there. It wasn't that bad! He has done a good job and I don't want to take from that. The 08-09 team was pretty good!

I would also like to add that I have absolutely enjoyed watching Tyler Carr and his teammates play, they are fun to watch. Really like Carr's game.

As the former Coach, , people have mentioned Carr, Shafer, and Jones as possibly the best players in recent history. I think people should also realize that Dustin Plunkett, current JV Coach was a pretty good player himself. I would argue he might be the most underrated player in school history. Freshman year had to play behind Shafer and Jones, Sophomore and Jr. year had to play 2nd fiddle to Jones and didn't get the limelight until his Sr. year. I would take any of the 4 on any team i would coach and take my chances. People need to quit being on one side of the fence or the other. It is Grant County High School, not Ron Kinmon or Jim Hicks High School. Both coaches have had success and people from both sides should be adult enough to acknowledge it.

Whenever a coach leaves a job after fourteen years and a new coach arrives, there is alway going to be a comparison. Usually it is the new coach who feels the pressure. I didn't know there was a controversy regarding Coach Hicks and Coach Kinmon. They are not at all similiar in their style of coaching. Remember that from about 2004 to 2008 the talent that coach Kinmon had was not necessarily stellar. He did not have players named Carr, Hunt, Johnson, or Xavier Thomas. He had players named Binion, Cain, Soden, or Webster. Sorry if naming names bothers some people.

Some people just seem to want to bad mouth one or the other. Khalid you must be pretty close to the situation if you know the names of kids that didn't even finish playing. I can't believe you couldn't remember Jones' name in your earlier thread.

But what is wrong with people thinking that this year's team was better than any of yours? What's wrong with people thinking that your 2003 team was better than any of Coach Eads (sp?) teams. There is nothing wrong with comparing. However, few would side with you that this year's team was better than the previous one's mentioned. Bottomline, they were ousted in the first round of region after being district runners-up. Not equivalent at all to a regional runner-up team. Not even close.

Don't forget they were also a team that beat Scott County in the district semi-finals.

Congrats to GC on a nice season, especially senior Austin Angling. I would pay good money to watch that kid play defense, kept GC in game early with multiple on the ball steals...just fun to watch!

 

Hope GC fans now realize how much the weak schedule ultimately hurt the braves. You can't prepare to play against good pressure defense like Oldham Co. unless you play those type if teams during regular season. As hard as Braves play & potential they have for next year braves fans should demand a serious schedule upgrade to prepare them for next years regional.

 

Grant Co played 3 season games in the 8th Region that was outside their 32nd District play. 3 or 4 season games against 29th and 30th District teams in the 8th Region may have contested their win/loss record. I definitely know playing those teams better prepares a team for its 8th Region Tourney draw.

My personal opinion, comparing this years team to the 02-03 team is some what of an insult to the years of Jones and Plunkett. That is your opinion and i have nothing against you for stating that, but if you were around for the 02-03 team (maybe you were I dont know) then i would think that there would be a clear cut difference between the two teams. Not taking anything away at all from this years team, i believe they have had an outstanding season with one of the best records in Braves history. But Like CincySportsfan said the 02-03 team did indeed upset Scott County that year in the district semi-finals, and thats a pretty big accomplishment. I am a Grant County fan and have thoroughly enjoyed watching them this season, their defense has been incredible and their ability to score is tremendous, but i will say that there are a couple teams on their schedule that should have been replaced with schools such as Oldham County (who has had our number for a long time now) South Oldham, Anderson, and even Collins. Even though the possibility to losing to all 4 during the season is great, i think we might have seen a different outcome Monday night at Henry County. The Coaching staff and players for Grant are every bit as good as Oldham county. I look forward to seeing them play again next season, i expect Grant back in the Region as a number 1 seed and making some noise in the Region.
