Well unless he's changed since I watched him a few years ago, Holland's counterpart in this game is exactly the opposite. Hicks never sat down and complained on most calls in the games I saw him coach. But he was only in our region for one year before moving on to another school.

Maybe he's changed as he's gotten more coaching experience over the years.

And about the weak schedule criticism , Hicks has had a reputation of downgrading his schedule at every school he's coached , which I think is around 4 or 5. Those easy wins over inferior talent looks good in the win-loss column but do very little to prepare a team for the tough post season games.

I don't think he has changed from your description. A very in your face style of coaching and very emotional. However, from what I hear the Grant Co people seem to like him.

Bgcat I would think as talented as your son is you personally would like to see him play against some of the better talent in the region & state.

Just think with talent GC has returning 4 or 5 games against better competition would make your team better. But if you would rather continue playing the weaker schedule that is your opinion.

Congrats to your son & Braves on a nice season...they played extremely hard all the games I saw them play.

Yes I would like to see some tougher competition, but I just don't think you can blame this loss on the entire schedule that Grant Co. played.

Any word on the Oldham Co. player who hurt his ankle at the tip off? I really felt bad for him and hope he will be able to play the next game.

Congrats to GC on a nice season, especially senior Austin Angling. I would pay good money to watch that kid play defense, kept GC in game early with multiple on the ball steals...just fun to watch!

Hope GC fans now realize how much the weak schedule ultimately hurt the braves. You can't prepare to play against good pressure defense like Oldham Co. unless you play those type if teams during regular season. As hard as Braves play & potential they have for next year braves fans should demand a serious schedule upgrade to prepare them for next years regional.

Agree with lack of schedule strength. However, when a program has struggled as Grant County has in recent years they must learn to win. As kids get used to Coach Hicks' system and winning, the schedule strength can increase.

Hickory in the 2008-09 season the Braves went 19-13, beat Simon Kenton, Shelby County, South Oldham, East Jessamine, and Cooper. I hate that people make it sound like it has been forever since they won. The lost to Simon Kenton by 3 in the District Finals and got beat in OT in 1st rd of Region. That is not far off from where they were this year.

I love to see the former Grant players commenting on things now that GC lost. Must stink to know that you or your friend never accomplished much as a player. Keep blaming Hicks because you don't like him :) That will make it feel better!

I didn't mean any disrespect to Coach Hicks or this years team. I just think some people have tried to make it sound like Grant Co was horrible and in shambles when Hicks got there. It wasn't that bad! He has done a good job and I don't want to take from that. The 08-09 team was pretty good!

This year's team was probably the best team in the last twenty years or so. Tyler Carr might be the best player in GCHS History (may be a stretch but I said "might"). I'd have a hard time thinking of more than maybe two players that can possible be considered better. Maybe Allen Schaeffer. Regardless to what Coach Hicks inherited his team has gotten better each of the three seasons he's been there.

Tyler Jones?

Tyler Jones?

You beat me to it. Tyler Jones and Allen are the best two players to graduate from Grant County in recent history. They also had some pretty good players (Howe and others) back in the 70's.

Best team the last twenty years? I have to call shenanigans on that one. The 2002-03 Braves played in the 8th Region championship game, losing to Oldham County by 8. Tyler Jones was on that team and named 8th Region POY that same year. Carr and this years team accomplished great things, but it is a stretch to say they are the best Braves team in twenty years.

Some of these folks must have short memories.

I don't know what your on but you better hope you don't get pulled over or drug tested. Lol

I'm with you on this one.

Folks, I said maybe, might, and probably. I also said you could come up with two players that might be better than Carr. I've spoken to some people in the county and some people think Carr is better than Jones. And some think Jones was better than Carr. And some think Shaeffer was better than all of them. I never said "obviously" or "definitely." This team might be the best.
