How much credibility do two people have who make an anonymous phone call, calling for a coach to be fired who has successful teams every season, including several region titles and one state championship? One caller thought Kelly Wells was in Florida!

 

Chris and his staff do a great job developing their players. He is also a good guy and supports all the kids and programs at Mason County HS. Chris is part of the leadership team of our KY HS Coaches Association. He is held in high esteem by coaches across the state in all sports- not just basketball.

 

Now that the comment line pair have had their 15 minutes of fame on BGPreps, let's hope that's as long as it lasts.

I don't know Coach O'Hearn, but I've seen this before. Storied program has a down year and certain people (usually parents of kids that didn't get playing time) want him removed. The administration shouldn't buckle to the pressure and I hope they don't. Sounds like they have to get other things in order rather than sports right now.

After reading a few statements in Ledger Independet's section of the sports of what people are saying. I can't believe some of the comments made. Some of the fans are calling for the coach to step down or be replace? Why?

Coach O'Hearn is a fine coach. And many of you know I don't have a dog in this fight and not a Royals fan, but hey he has a State Tournament under his belt not many 10th region coaches can claim that. So what is going on at MC?

Why can't those folks realize that Augusta was the better team that night, although it was a improtant night, but none the less it has happened.

- There's always going to be a few kooks that think team A should always beat Team B - always - and if they don't, heads should roll.

I agree with ChiefSmoke and zklemme- Coach Ohearn will be at Mason County for as long as he chooses to stay and for the sake of the program I hope he stays for a long time. The man knows basketball, he has great balance with his kids, and he has a proven track record not only at Mason, but prior to coming home, he did more with less at Nicholas County and took them to the Class A state tournament and came within a blink of the eye of upsetting a very good Harlan team led by Charles Thomas. The people in Mason County became spoiled by the success and the run that the county made starting in 2002 with Wells and then Ohearns run into the late 2000's. It shows with their attendance at the Fieldhouse, if you ask me they are nothing more than fair weathered fans who follow a winner. Every program goes through a couple of down years at some point in time, Mason has hit this stride but I can promise you, the Royals will be back and I hope its under Ohearn, who is a great coach but first a great guy!

It's all about who you surround yourselves with. obviously, Chief's inner circle has better things to talk about then firing a very successful coach because of 1 silly loss.

Most of this talk is probably coming from parents of kids that didn't get to play as much as mommy or daddy thought they should. From what I understand Mason Co. had a lot of that this year.
