February 22, 201313 yr Before I get blasted (and I'm sure I will anyway) I'm not saying any current Democrats are Nazis or that Obama is Hitler. I'll be the first to admit I'm only a casual follower of history but I'm seeing parallels to what's happening in this country and what happened in Germany prior to WWII. Exploiting a terrible economy to push an agenda. Masterful manipulation of current media to get their message out. The German Propaganda Ministry had nothing on the White House Press Office. Couple that with a willing to be led mainstream media and masterful use of the internet and television in much the same way the Nazis used radio and I don't see how the similarity can be denied. The constant barrage of campaign style speeches where all the ills of society are blamed on those that oppose them. Scapegoating a segment of the population by blaming them for current problems. (Jewish then, Corporate interests now) Attempts to use current events to pass legislation that COULD ultimately be used to take power away from the citizenry.
February 22, 201313 yr Are you new to politics? Talk radio is dominated by the right. Cable news is dominated by the right. Using a segment of the population for demonization purposes is hardly new. You don't seriously believe that any of the above is going to take us ANYWHERE near Nazi Germany, correct?
February 22, 201313 yr Hitler should have read his history. He followed the same mistake as Napoleon, dont invade Russia.

You don't seriously believe that any of the above is going to take us ANYWHERE near Nazi Germany, correct? While, not anywhere near Nazi Germany, I firmly believe this adminstration is little by little taking more and more of our individual rights and freedoms away and making society more and more reliant on the government to get by. It's a scary time IMO.

Using a segment of the population for demonization purposes is hardly new. You don't seriously believe that any of the above is going to take us ANYWHERE near Nazi Germany, correct? Just pointing out parallels. Nothing more. Two very effective political movements. Do I think that we are moving towards a Nazi-type takeover, no. Do I worry about the direction the country is moving? Yes. Do I worry even more that otherwise intelligent and caring people are seeming oblivious to history? Much more so then anything else. And while you may be correct that none of this is new in my 30 years of adult life I don't remember anything like what I'm seeing now. Sent from my Samsung Stratosphere using Forum Runner
February 22, 201313 yr I agree. However, I feel that congress is more complicit in this than Obama. No doubt, which is why until we get someone in the Presidency that will truly stand up for personal responsibility and an individual's constitutional rights we're going to continue down this dark path.

Other than taking manipulating a willing media to new heights, there's nothing new coming out of this administration that we haven't seen before. There's plenty enough opposition resources to prevent anything like Nazi Germany from happening again. The important thing is a maniac will get exposed way before he reaches the point where he would get elected to national office.

The education agenda is driven by the government - it controls content and agenda. To call into question actions of the government and governments throughout history would be counter-productive. Do they teach what the phrase 'crossing the Rubicon' means and why it is meaningful? No. Do they teach what the Stamp Act was and why it and the associated writs of assistance were and how they were major triggers to the Revolutionary War? No. Do they teach that when communist leaders Lenin, Stalin and Mao assumed power they murdered millions of their own citizens? No. Do they teach that the Nazi's came into power in Germany through political means after a false flag operation against the Reichstag? No. Do they teach that Ho Chi Min was an ally of the US in World War II and fought the Japanese with the promise that his his country would be freed from French colonialism? No. Do they teach that US government developed plans for false flag attacks that included murdering its own citizens to justify war with Cuba before it was rejected by Kennedy? No. Do they teach that the 2nd attack in the Gulf of Tokin incident was fabricated to rationalize expanding the war with Vietnam? No. It is not in the states interest to teach children to be wary of the state. The education process reflects that.
February 22, 201313 yr Democide has been histories most prevalent manner of death. 20th Century Democide "Also, this democide murdered 6 times more people than died in combat in all the foreign and internal wars of the century." But lets not teach the children that fact.
February 23, 201313 yr Unless you haven't been paying attention to history, we've been losing our liberties for the last 100 years. It started before Woodrow Wilson, but got under a full head of steam under his administrations, and it hasn't let up since. After every crisis we give away more and more of our liberty. How's that Patriot Act working out, now?

You don't seriously believe that any of the above is going to take us ANYWHERE near Nazi Germany, correct? Cable news is dominated by the right? Fox News is right leaning and none of the other cable networks are. How does that equate to cable news being dominated by the right? And you neglected to mention the print media and the network news. Both of these news sources are dominated by the left. I am not saying we are anything like Nazi Germany but I will say the media in this country is TOTALLY CORRUPT. Most (not all) of the media tries to crush conservatives and protect liberals. That is just fact.
February 23, 201313 yr That's not even a real word. Democide - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Democide is a term revived and redefined by the political scientist R. J. Rummel as "the murder of any person or people by a government, including genocide, politicide and mass murder." Further down... "One of his main findings is that liberal democracies have much less democide than authoritarian regimes.[10] He argues that there is a relation between political power and democide. Political mass murder grows increasingly common as political power becomes unconstrained. At the other end of the scale, where power is diffuse, checked, and balanced, political violence is a rarity. According to Rummel, "The more power a regime has, the more likely people will be killed. This is a major reason for promoting freedom." Rummel concludes that concentrated political power is the most dangerous thing on earth."" Emphasis added. Genocide Versus Democide | DemocraticPeace Blog "...democide as any murder by government, including this form of genocide. This understood, governments murdered about 170,000,000 people in the last century, 1900-1987. Around 38,000,000 of that was genocide." Fitting the the theme of the thread it is a term not formally taught. But it is real. We reel in horror at the thought and images of 'genocide'. That term has made its way into the vocabulary. But it is only a small subset of 'democide'. Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, etc were far more active in democide than typical genocide.
