February 10, 201313 yr After the 16 page summary came out about the POTUS kill list, Senators and more media outlets are starting to question more and more the legality of these drone strikes. Rand Paul: 'Very unseemly' that president decides drone strikes - POLITICO.com Sen. Rand Paul says there must be a review process before a president can authorize drone strikes on U.S. citizens. “It’s very unseemly that a politician gets to decide the death of an American citizen," the Kentucky Republican said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union." "They should answer about this 16-year-old boy, al-Awlaki’s son, that was killed, not in collateral damage but in a separate strike. They never answered that. I think you should be tried for treason if you’re an American citizen, you go overseas and you take up arms. I’m probably for executing you but I want to hear the evidence.” Paul said he won't vote to confirm John Brennan as CIA director until Brennan clarifies his answer about whether U.S. citizens can legally be killed by drone strikes within the United States. “The president, a politician, Republican or Democrat, should never get to decide someone’s death by flipping through some flash cards and saying, ‘You want to kill him? Yeah, let’s go ahead and kill him,'" Paul said. Would you be okay if drone strikes were used on a citizen here in the US? What about on citizens abroad?
February 10, 201313 yr Citizens abroad who have taken up arms Vs the US and or joins Al Qaeda? Yes! Any citizen within the boundaries of the US for any reason? NO!
February 10, 201313 yr Very very slippery slope here. I do think that if someone is actively fighting our troops and he is targeted and killed in action against them it is fine, US citizen or not. As a whole I would rather capture as many of these people and get information from them. I bet most would rather be water boarded and live rather than being blown into 1000 pieces in a drone strike.

See that's not possible. We are allowed to kill them but we can't use enhanced interrogation on them?????

February 11, 201313 yr And how do you prove that beyond any reasonable doubt?I would say that if they are actively engaging US forces then they are free to be shot, beyond reasonable doubt. Other wise it would be a little more problematic to prove the case.

February 11, 201313 yr Drones being used to hunt Chris Dorner now. Hope they don't make a mistake and fire on any innocent hikers or hunters in the area.

When the GOP was in the White House, everyone wanted to kill the terrorist, take the fight to them. Now, it's capture and question. You can't have it both ways, or maybe it's because Obama is ordering the stikes. If he wasn't actually doing something about it, the people on the right would say, "Oh, we knew he would be weak on foreign policy and keeping American safe".

Are you forgetting all of the uproar over Gitmo, water boarding and Abu Grab (sp?). Focus then was on capture and detention, then getting information.

That is an extremely ridiculous point of view. I would be outraged at any president using military weapon on U.S. citizens on U.S. soil. BTW, I guarantee democrats would have been calling for impeachment if Bush would have enacted this policy, and I would have been with them. Edited February 11, 201313 yr by plainspoken

Bush abused Executive power just like Obama. No argument there. I'm no fan of Bush, but I don't recall him calling a drone strike to kill american citizens, especially a 16 year old kid.
