February 8, 201313 yr I've always wondered where those numbers come from. You see these huge numbers of abortions tossed out by the anti-abortion crowd, but I never see any links backing it up.According to the link above, they come from the Center for Disease Control (CDC). After looking at the numbers, I am now wondering about the totals. (2009 numbers only) The article states that the CDC reported total us abortions reported to them of 784,507 but that only included abortion statistics "that were provided voluntarily to CDC by the central health agencies of 48 reporting areas (the District of Columbia; New York City; and 46 states, excluding California, Delaware, Maryland, and New Hampshire). " Since these voluntarily reported abortions of 784,507 did not include California, Delaware, Maryland and New Hampshire, is it reasonable to assume the additional 425,000 abortions came from those 4 states alone? Or did they make some assumptions about abortions that were not voluntarily reported? I'd be interested in reading how they arrived at 1.21 million.
February 8, 201313 yr I am against abortion. I am not, however, for our Privacy Right to have children. I wish that there was a way to test for fit parents. You can't force sterilization, but it would do our society a lot of good.

February 8, 201313 yr I disagree with the man not having a say in an abortion, after all the guy is who shot the stuff to fertilize the egg and it does have the guys genes in it also. So it is part of the guy. Many guys would accept the responsibility and never want the woman to be part of it after the birth. So I disagree about it being the woman's choice. Probably the 1st time I've ever said this, but I couldn't agree more. Men are just as much responsible for creating the baby, not to mention financially responsible, so they should have every bit as much say as the woman.

Ideally the father would be responsible, but far too many are not. Having a child usually affects the mother's life far more than the father.
February 8, 201313 yr Ideally the father would be responsible, but far too many are not. Having a child usually affects the mother's life far more than the father. So that means the father has zero say in what happens with his unborn child?
February 9, 201313 yr Probably the 1st time I've ever said this, but I couldn't agree more. Men are just as much responsible for creating the baby, not to mention financially responsible, so they should have every bit as much say as the woman. It is interesting that this came up. There was a member of the board who mentioned he divorced his first wife for going behind his back and aborting two of their children. He forgave her the first time, the second time he filed for divorce. Father's rights are pretty big to him.
February 9, 201313 yr All she has to do is sign over all rights to the dad,not much difference in that or giving up the kid for adoption. Only thing is the mom would probably want in the kids life and regret she ever considered an abortion. Especially when she sees how precious the little kid is.
February 9, 201313 yr So that means the father has zero say in what happens with his unborn child? As well as for other reasons, yes.
