Girls play up all year move down for Freshman Tournament

Featured Replies

Yes it's true, sort of. The player did severely hurt her ankle, but it's not broken. Hopefully she will be back for districts. Varsity starter who did not play in freshmen games this year. Not sure what the goal was other than to win a freshmen game, but at what cost? I hate it for the player, but dare I say the coaches got what they deserved.

Ignorant statement.

I have to go back and take away the "LIKE" I sent to Ian Moone. I was briefing over the threads and seen his and thought that was the situation until I read further so........ Sorry Ian you can scratch that one off! :irked:

I apparently got some bad info on her playing freshmen earlier in the year, and for that I apologize, but I stand by the gist of the statement, that if you're good enough to start varsity you have no business playing in a freshmen tournament and most coaches would not risk injuring a key player to win a freshmen game.

Now that I agree with you on. IMO if your getting any varsity minutes AND there is enough players on the frshman team they shouldnt play.

The facts are the kid played in every freshmen game. She has all the business playing in a freshmen tournament. She has played all year in Freshmen games and will only be a Freshmen once so she deserves the chance to play with her fellow Freshmen. She could of just as easily been hurt in practice. What are you going to do not practice because as a coach your afraid of injury. It could be said most coaches would not take the opportunity away from this player who only has this chance ONCE just because they are afraid of a injury. Sometimes is about the kid.

When does this Frosh tourney begin and where is it played?

Takes a very small person to hide behind a keyboard and look down your nose at the rest of us and make ignorant statements like that when we don't know who you are, everyone knows who I am. Still waiting for a response to the PM that I sent you.

The tournament started last week and they are down to the final 5 teams. Campbell County will play Holy Cross with the winner advancing to the Championship game. Ryle gets the winner of Notre Dame and Highlands. Winner advances to the final game. All games are played at Notre Dame.

Six pages of discussion and still no mention of who the teams are that are moving frosh down for the tourney. Does anyone want to share who this or these teams are?

Newbie, first time to post. Basketball is a team sport, but what about sports that offer a individual middle school championship(swimming, track, cross country)? I know kids like to compete against their friends and also to prove they are the best in the area in middle school even if they are on the varsity or JV teams. I like to let them to be able to have fun with the sport, and not always feel the pressure of competing against the older kids. A good example is the HS girl who was an olympic medalist and then returned to her HS to swim in the state meet. I have no problem with this, she wanted to have fun with her friends. Sure she pushed out one of the other girls from the meet, but that is sports, the best kid is going to play. People tend to be to PC and want every kid to get a trophy. The Freshmen basketball team is for Freshmen, if the girls and the coach both want them to play I do not see a problem with it. If someone gets their feelings hurt, then they need to improve their game and be one of the top players to get the playing time.

First, welcome to BGP. Now...Okay, you're right. I just heard Brandon Phillips and Joey Votto are moving down to triple A this year because the Reds want to win tirple A. They are the right age! They have every right to do it! Joey has friends on the other triple A teams and wants to compete against them and show them how good he is. Brandon wants to have fun and not have all the pressure of playing against the best everyday. Dusty, Brandon and Joey agreed it's okay.

Nope...I think it's rediculous...outside of the exceptions that have been stated on here. You don't have to read it!
