Sticks and stones may break your bones, but a Chuck Smith glare will liquefy your organs.

Boyle was garbage when Chuck Smith took over. People came to see the band at football games before he took over.

That's where the recruiting began..

That's where the recruiting began..

Who did they recruit? Name names since you know so much.

I'll hang up and listen to your response.

Hahahaha...I can see it now. "Hey son, come play for us. We were 1-9 last year with a tradition rich band that is second to none." That line works everytime!! When they started winning, kids came...kinda how that one works. Coaches dont have to recruit when the progam does it for you.

When the program does it for you? That's funny! Everyone that lives in that area knows how the Boyle tradition was started and it wasn't with the kids that live in the district, that's for sure.

Danville has 2 schools in the town, Boyle only draws from the county part. Which is mostly outside of Danville. Over a DECADE before Smith got there, they may have one 1 or 2 games a year with no athletes on the team, not very much size. Once he gets there in a matter of a couple of years kids start showing up that arent' the familar.

Boyle is surrounded by 4 counties all in 15 mins drive. Size, speed, and athletic ability just doesn't show up because you hire a coach. I have been told names of kids who left their schools to play for Boyle, but it was years ago and I could remember if I tried You can call it recruiting or wanting to play for a winner or however you wanna wrap it.

I was a witness to the turnaround. When they were bad to the winning of the state championships.

Are you really being serious? Danville has 2 schools in the town, Boyle only draws from the county part. Which is mostly outside of Danville and Perryville. Over a DECADE before Smith got there, they may have one 1 or 2 games a year with no athletes on the team, not very much size. Once he gets there in a matter of a couple of years kids start showing up that arent' the familar.

Okay. You may be right. First I had heard of it.

My apologies. We should put an end to the recruiting talk. While this allegation of recruiting is beyond the statute of limitations we still do not allow talk of recruiting in high school on BGP. I am guilty as well and I apologize. Let's try to stay on topic.

Which is that only Chuck Smith knows what Jesus would do.

Your time frames are a little skewed.

In 1982 Boyle was 8-3, District Champs and beat probably the best team in AA that year in Somerset.

In 1983 Boyle went 5-5 because of numerous injuries but one of their victories gave Bardstown their only loss of the regular season.

In 1984 Boyle gave Ed Rall his first losing season going 3-8 but they gave Danville it's closest game in the regular season and were ahead of Somerset in the playoffs going into the 4th Quarter.

In 1986 Boyle went 7-3 on the season.

When Chuck Smith arrived they were at rock bottom in '92 and he immediately went to work with a 7-3 record and a playoff spot. Each year the Rebels improved from '94 and it still took till '99 to win that first state title.

So who are these magical players you speak about that are ingredients? Neal Brown? Ed Sleet? Jeff Duggins? Leffew's? Brodie Overstreet? Brandon Smith? Jacob or Seth Tamme? Ian Young? Andrew Bertram? Boomer Johnson? Givhan? Daniel Cloud? Miller? the Kickers (Begley, Jennings, etc)

I know that Matt Quinn went to the Danville system but transferred before High School.

Speaking of the Ads, do you paint them with the same brush? Clevengers? Britt?

You need to fact up before spouting your theories. You act as if Smith showed up and immediately they won state titles with outside players. It took Chuck 8 years to finally win a title but anyone with an eye saw the program building to that end long before the goal was reached.

I guess we will agree to disagree. No, I don't paint the ADS with the same brush because there is a long list of players that have played for Danville that still have roots there and family memebers that play to this day. I don't know much about Britt, but I'm sure if he wasn't there the ADS had someone to replace him.
