QUOTE=UCRN;4572229]noticed last night that HHS does not have a "true" PG. Why do the Birds make Witte work so hard to just get up court and into the offense? The guy inbounding the ball had no defender pressuring him. He would inbound the ball to Witte, who's being dogged by #20 all over the floor, and then run down court. Does that man not know how to set a pick? Or bring True up just over half court and set a pick. A good hard pick by True would have had the much smaller #20 at least looking over his shoulder. When your PG is NOT a PG, maybe the staff could arrange some help for him so come 4Q there's something left in the tank?? There's no help on the bench. And did a HHS player play JV and then START varsity? And if this is correct, is that allowable?

The PG postion has been played by Hinkel (varsity) and Buten (jv) for most of the season. Both are currently out with shoulder dislocations. This has forced Witte to play at the varsity level and Weyer on jv, and you are correct, neither is playing the postion they have grown up playing. On their respective levels they have done a nice job, but it is an adjustment for both.

Obviously, opposing coaches have noticed the inexperience at PG and are playing them defensively for the entire 84 feet. A backcourt screen, a high frontcourt screen, or even a pass back to the unguarded inbounder all would take pressure off the PG.

Similar to the PG injury situation, backup C Jake Granotte is out with a concussion. That leaves starting JV center Todd Ramey as the next man in at that position. If a situation arises that a normal starter needs to sit out a few minutes to start the game, the only option is a JV player.

For those paying attention, including Hergott (lost for season - torn ACL), that is 4 junior/senior players currently out. The help on the bench is the current jv roster

The young kids are being thrown to the wolves but it will pay dividends for the program in the end. Harris, Ramey and Weyer are all Sophs who have gotten some strong minutes this year. Feggins, another soph has played a bunch and started a few games. This core should develop into a fine group by the time they are Srs.

This is not good. The positive spin on this though is that those younger players are getting valuable time and hopefully this gets them prepared for the post-season. :idunno:

This was the case in the Campbell Co. game. KUDOS to Bailey Witte for doing his best at playing the point.

By the way, Ramey is a kid who has played very well offensively at the JV level and didn't even play hoops his Frosh year. If he can improve defensively he could be a very solid scoring option next year but more importantly an experienced backup off the bench in the Districts. He's a Charles Barkley type that uses his body well, a lot of upside.

Hopefully the Birds can get healthy quick. Gronotte should be cleared on Wed. Not sure about Buten or Hinkel. Buten came back against the Camels Thursday night but apparently re-injured the shoulder.

42, 82, 102 it does not matter as long as you are in the game and have a chance to win in the 4th quarter.

You're only in the game because Boone is limited offensively.

HHS O is dreadful.

We get it. We know we have trouble scoring the ball. No need to pile on just to make your point to one poster.

Am I not supposed to answer?

How many HHS games have you seen this year? Still does not matter how many you score if your defense is keeping you in the game. So now you rag on Boone County at the same time you rag on Highlands. Tired of reading the comments of posters that if there lucky have been to one game all year and then want to give there expert opinion on how they could make things better.

I missed the part where I tried to make things better for HHS.

They are really struggling offensively which is my point. Boone struggles offensively as well. Who the heck is going to argue either.

My original point is that as a coach, player, and fan you hope a big win gets you going. Boone was the perfect foil to keep the momentum going. HHS reverted.

How many times do I need to see bad offenses before I'm right?

Thing is, not too many without a vested interest are going to go out of their way to watch a Highlands game. I went to one game last year. Regional against Lloyd. Watching P. Towles play 25 feet away from the basket against a team that had no one with a prayer of stopping him on the post, well I don't have to see much more than that...

Wasn't aware that the Birds were down to their 3rd option at PG. 2 dislocated shoulders! Wow! Diving for loose balls? Hope both recover fully...and soon! Good luck to the Birds against NCC. Keep scrappin'!!

Isn't Buten back in action?

Isn't Buten back in action?

Was. Re-injured. Hope all get healthy soon.

Go Birds! Beat Breds!!
