Big game tomorrow night between the #1 Breds and #3 Colonels up on the hill.

Newcath comes in 12-1 after the loss to Trinity last Friday.

Covcath comes in 13-2 after a 71-60 loss to Holmes last night.

Who wins and why?

Will Covcath be able to handle Newcath's front court of Seibert, Schulte, and McDonald?

Really looking forward to the Beuter/Frederick match up.

Thoughts?

I think the Breds size advantage will be the biggest difference in this one.

Agreed.

Covcath presents some match up problems for Newcath because of their quickness 1-5 with Tobler on the bench, but I see the Colonels really struggling to defend Newcath in the half court sets. Schuh and Pauly will likely be matched up with McDonald and Schulte...tough draws for both.

I'd expect to see the following match ups:

Pangallo v Ruthsatz

Beuter v Frederick

Seibert v Wichmann

Schulte v Pauly

McDonald v Schuh

Covcath will have to shoot well from outside if they want to win this game.

While CCH will most likely start their normal 5 my guess would be they play a big lineup when both McD and Schulte are in.

Can NCC defend Ruthsatz, that is a big question. Holmes showed them how, but not everyone has a Palmer. I thought CCH rebounded extermely well against Holmes and will hold their own there, but CCH has to convert inside which they didn't do last night. If they don't convert down low, NCC can be more agressive ON Ruthsatz and Fredrick outside. If you can spread NCC out you can compete and use quickness which Ruthsatz and Frederick have. NCC is still really balanced and should be able to squeak out a close one. They can beat you in so many ways, buy pounding it inside or nailing the three. I don't expect a lot of turnovers in this one, both teams protect the ball well. Wouldn't bet my mortgage on the outcome, though.

Why does Tobler not start? I think starting him would be a much better option than Wichman in a match up like this.

Due to parking limitations on the Hill I'm on my way now. I ain't parking at KMart!

Interesting. I was expecting Seibert to be on Ruthsatz. He always gets the tougher assignments because of his quickness and length. ie Hatton, McClendon, Hicks to name a few. He plays great D and if you stop Ruthsatz I think they win. It will be interesting to see how they match up.

Much ado about nothing IMO. He was hurt to start the season and the starting 5 were working well so now he just comes off the bench early.

Wichmann does a lot of things that you can't see on a stat sheet.

Clyde, maybe you can get LB13 to get you one of his reserve parking spots. I'll be there early.

But I think that CCH will have the fire.

This is a match up nightmare for CCH. My guess is Tobler will start in order to better defend Schulte and McDonald. Regardless, one of the two Schulte/McDonald will have a miss match but it all depends on how NCC utilizes it. I would assume NCC will put Seibert on Ruthsatz. His length and athleticism will give Ruthsatz more fits than anyone else on NCC, IMO. However, Pangallo does have the speed to keep up witbh Ruthsatz but he is only a soph.

Frederick is the X factor once again for the colonels along with the colonels defense down low on McDonald/Schulte. Ruthsatz can't beat NCC/Holmes by himself. This showed in the Holmes game. If Frederick didn't have his best game of the year it likely could have been a 15+ point differential.

There is nothing worse!!

Ask Coach Brannen and he will tell you the key to success for his team is that they have to knock down shots...plain and simple. He knows that teams are going to key on the Big 3 down low and his guards have to hit open shots.

As tough as the front court is to defend, it is Beuter that makes this team go...if not for him, teams could simply sit in a 2-3 zone and double down low every time they went in the post.
