January 8, 201313 yr BTW had that been a world-class fiddle player I might have stopped. Zero chance for a violinist.
January 8, 201313 yr Well it didn't happen in KY. Or they'd have had a world class whiskey jug blower on hand.
January 8, 201313 yr I guess I get what the naysayers are saying...I guess. But you guys are missing out if you say there's no chance you'd enjoy this: [video=youtube_share;hnOPu0_YWhw] Classical music should be included in our school curricula.
January 8, 201313 yr On a related note, I saw the frontman from the Scottish band "Travis" busking on a street corner by Westminster in London in November '11. It was pretty cool. (I stopped and watched for 4 or 5 minutes, and had I had any cash on me, I would have given him some.)

January 8, 201313 yr I'm with Clyde. I don't give a crap about the violin, how it sounds, how much it is worth or who plays it. I wouldn't have stopped if I was just kicking it for the day as a tourist with no shedule. The study proves nothing other than people don't care about the violin. Throw an underground rapper with a beatbox sidekick and I bet I stop and probably kick in a few bucks if they are good. And if that means I am not cultured then I'll say you're right. I don't need knowledge of fancy instruments to prove myself. Culture isn't about proving anything. And I hope our culture hasn't devolved to the point where music (real music) as a fine art is appreciated less than the flavor of the day.

January 8, 201313 yr Real music is an opinion. Real music to me is a mic and two turntables. I like them both.
January 8, 201313 yr Diversity is a good thing. Ice Cube Steady Mobbin' or The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart. It's all good.
January 8, 201313 yr Author I am pretty sure the last 5 words of the article explains what the experiment was about. Too many people are too busy to appreciate their surroundings. It's interesting that kids were the ones who wanted to stop and listen to someone playing the violin.
