Cantrall's Rating the State 9th Region

Walter - I appreciate all the information you bring to bgp!

Another Soph PG in the running is Zack Pangallo from NCC. IMO he has done a great job running the offense with few turnovers and a ton of assists. He knows who and where the ball needs to go. The last couple games he has been more aggressive offensively and NCC last coupe wins have been impressive.

With him and McDonald does that mean NCC has the best Soph class?

I know Dixie is strong as well.

Money, Having Pangallo in the discussion illustrates the challenge of "ranking" a position. He is not a scorer on the NCC team like Nick R and Bolden are so his numbers are going to be lower. His assists might be higher (they do not report to the Enquirer). His role is completely different.

As to your Pangallo/McDonald question my first thought is "yes." CCH has some nice sophs to go along with Bo but they are not getting run this year. So for now , until proven otherwise, I'd say yes.

NCC has the strongest 2 players on the same team in the sophomore class currently. I would have to say Dixie has/will have the deepest Sophomore class with CCH slightly behind Dixie in depth. However, I look for CCH to be the better of the 3 the next 2 years given talent in the current freshman and junior class. But with that being said they should all 3 end up in the top 5 of the region with Cooper and Holmes the next 2 years.

Curious to know how many shots per game Bolden and Ruthsatz takes as well as the turnover to assist ratio for both Ruthsatz and Bolden. IMO, I would put Bolden ahead of Ruthsatz although Ruthsatz has played tougher competition this year.

I realize Bolden is averaging 19 and Ruthsatz is at 21.4. Any idea on their shooting percentages? FT percentages?

Before Holmes left for Florida, Bolden was over 50% from the field and right around 50% from 3. I believe he is AROUND an 80% ft shooter as well.

He is very efficient from the field and doesn't take too many bad shots.

15-0 so they can't be too bad.

Best answer is get out watch them play so you can judge for yourself.

I will say this though...they are by far the deepest team with quality guards and James Bolden is arguably the best pg in the region as a soph. Averaging 19, 5, and 5 a game.

Coming from someone who has seen a TON of NKY basketball over the past 40 years, Bolded reminds him of Dickie Beal w/ a jump shot. Doesn't get any higher in praise than that.

Funny you say that.

My girlfriend's uncle has a son that plays JV ball for Ryle and when I was talking to him about Bolden at the HC/Ryle game, he said the same exact thing. He is also a Holmes alum that went to school with DIcky. He has coached and coached against Bolden over the past 3 or so years during AAU ball so he is someone that has likely seen him play more than anyone else on here.

Holmes has the best freshman class/team in nky. They are deep and loaded with talent. Just beat Covcath in the HC tourney. Combine Broiley, Greene, Englemon, Arnold, Lucky, and Moore with Bolden as a senior and you are looking at a potential state title team if they all stay together. Scary thing is, Markel McClendon was originally apart of that team/class as well as a 7th grader at Holmes. Their front court will be very good with 6'2 Arnold, 6'3/4 Lucky, and 6'5 Moore.

As far as the junior class goes, there is actually a lot of talent returning next year in nky:

Covcath- Ruthsatz, Tobler, Heppler, Schult, Wichmann

Holmes- Glover, Hill, Chames (Housely/Pouncy...one of their best jr's Jamonte Wilson not playing this year)

Cooper- Morgan, Holland, McNeil (McNair/Henderson)

Conner- Barker, Hemmerich (Way/Lamblez)

Ryle- White, Stuhr, King

Dixie- Hatton, Daria

NCC- Schult (Franzen)

All of the kids listed are making some sort of contribution to their team this year.

Tobler is a senior this year.

I'm not as familiar with Holmes so you would know much better than I. I would think Holmes, CCH, and Newcath would be leading candidates for the top 3 teams over the next 2 years. Cooper and Dixie wil be right in the mix as well.

CCH loses Pauly, Tobler, and Frederick. Have two good freshman that could potentially make an impact on Varsity next season in Sweeny and Ben Heppler. Also, CCH has a solid JV team with Sophomores in Romes, Shumate, and Theobald. Schuh also, a Sophomore.

NCC will lose alot in Seibert and Bueter. They will have to rely on Pangallo, McDonald, and Schulte. Covington could end up being a huge help there.

Plus Dixie doesn't count since Dixie brought their 7th grade girls team to play that one.

Classy and intelligent!

Dont forget about current Frosh Ben Weyer for NCC. He is getting valuable varsity minutes this year.

Not sure why I was thinking Tobler was a Jr but thanks for correcting me. Don't forget about Vonhandorf of Villa when talking CCH. I've heard he will be there next year as a frosh.

Covington and Weyer SHOULD step in to starting roles next year for NCC but it depends on how Jason develops. Strong enough to play the 3 but I'd think at 6'1 or 6'2 he would be more ideal at the 2 if his ball handling improves enough. You could then possibly start Weyer at the 3.

Also, Dixie will be top 3 next year. Deep soph class with Hatton will make them very tough.

.

Weyer isn't every going to play a 3.

Weyer isn't every going to play a 3.

Weyer at HHS may play the 3 next year, not Weyer at NCC

His first game back was Ryle.

I caught myself just in time ... almost gave you a like for that one. :D

I would call it funny. But I don't have a dog in the hunt.

Since people were asking how they compare, here are Bolden's stats before the 3 Florida games and tonight v Holy Cross:

FG- 52%

3pt- 43%

FT- 78%

RPG- 4.8 (5)

APG- 4.5 (5)

SPG- 3.9 (4)

TO/Game- 3

Minutes per game- 28.1
